Karis Lai

Hello, I'm Karis. Having participated in the mentorship program,  with the MedTech Society this year profoundly impacted me. The welcoming community sparked a passion in me to contribute actively to the society's growth. I am eager to bring my skills and expertise to the MedTech Society by stepping into the role of welfare officer.

What I aim to achieve

  • An inclusive space where ideas flow freely and a stronger sense of community for all.
  • Offering mentees with a wider variety of mentors in different professions.There will always be something for you.

What I Bring to the Role

  • Serving as the Marketing Director for the variety show of Chinese Society, I have honed my skills in effective communication, liaising with different companies with strategic outreach. This ensures that our initiatives reach and engage a wide range of members
  • Being a Medical Innovation and Enterprise student has provided me with a solid understanding of the MedTech field. This enables me to comprehend the challenges and opportunities present in the industry
  • My previous experiences in organizing large-scale activities provided me with the organizational and logistical prowess required to plan and execute impactful events.

I bring not just skills, but heart and passion to make Med Tech society a dynamic and collaborative hub of innovation for all.

Hi everyone! I am Helena, a first-year medical physics student. I'm passionate about creating a community where every member feels supported and connected. When I first joined the mentorship program within the MedTech Society, I found it to be an incredibly beneficial experience, allowing members to make various connections and chat with professionals from different medical backgrounds. This has motivated me to join the team of the MedTech society, creating more opportunities like these for others. As Welfare Officer, I aim to organise mental health awareness campaigns, promote inclusivity, and provide resources for personal and academic challenges, maintaining a positive atmosphere within the society. By introducing initiatives like mindfulness sessions and providing more communication channels for others to express themselves. My goal is to enhance the overall student experience, prioritising both physical and mental well-being. In taking on this role, I am dedicated to make every member feel included, have the chance to build meaningful connections, and making a positive impact on the well-being of the UCL MedTech community.

My interest in running for the Welfare Officer position stems from my international background and strong communication skills. Having lived in prominent global cities, I have gained a profound understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives. Furthermore, this international exposure has allowed me to develop a keen sense of empathy and adaptability, crucial for a Welfare Officer role. I firmly believe that fostering mutual understanding and respect is essential for creating a supportive community within any organization. My fluency in four languages—English, French, German, and Swiss-German—enables me to connect with individuals from various linguistic backgrounds, facilitating effective communication and ensuring that every member's voice is heard. My commitment to inclusivity aligns with the Welfare Officer position, and I am eager to promote an environment that encourages open dialogue and understanding. I am currently pursuing a business-related degree (BSc Medical Innovation and Enterprise), I possess a solid foundation in organizational and management principles, which will enable me to address the welfare needs of the society proactively. I previously held similar positions in high school such as student council president as well as led several charity events and campaigns. My passion for enhancing the well-being of others, combined with my international exposure and language proficiency, uniquely positions me as the ideal candidate for the Welfare Officer role.
