Diya Asawa

Hi everyone! I'm Diya, a Biomedical Sciences student, and I'm running for the MedTech Portal Chair position.

For the past term, I've been involved in the MedTech committee as the Portal Media Officer, and I've loved working with the team to write articles, organise podcasts, and launch the very first MedTech Newsletter for all our members. I am eager to lead the Portal Team and expand its outreach next year so that more students can experience the exciting opportunities that I had access to!

  • As the MedTech Portal Chair, I would love to help recruit a stronger community of first year members - joining a new society as a first-year student can feel daunting, and I hope to decrease any barriers to entry by organising more informal skills workshops and events for members to practise skills that are important for the MedTech field such as scientific communication, public speaking, and coding.
  • I'd love to include fun trivia questions on the MedTech Instagram and interesting MedTech-related websites/documentaries/resources on the Portal website to increase audience engagement.
  • I'd like to promote collaborative writing as well as original artwork by UCL students within the Portal articles.

I believe that I would be a good Portal Chair since I enjoy working with new people and I'm good at staying organised - I would like to use my role to help the society achieve its goals and implement new initiatives for the upcoming year:)

With a creative mindset and desire to spread the latest breakthroughs in medical technology, my passion for Medical technology extends beyond studying the Medical Physics degree. Believing that the podcasts and articles related to the industry of MedTech are hugely beneficial to the audiences, I aim to contribute to the Society and nominate myself as the role of Portal Chair in the MedTech Society.

I have experience with leadership from school as the Captain of Arts and Music. By working closely with my team members and effectively making decisions whilst facing challenges, I gained team-leadership experience and public speaking practice while hosting the Music Shows.

During my previous summer internship, I helped with designing posters to help the organisation express corporate culture to the public. I developed a strategic mindset for brand building and gained valuable insight into the techniques and tools used in presenting information. With an awareness of the importance of the digital media platform, I am prepared to manage the publication of podcasts, articles and newsletters via the MedTech Portal.

Combining strong communication skills, team-leadership experience and a vision for the digital platform, I would love to contribute to growing the influence of a platform for students preparing for a career in Medical technology and professionals thrilled to share their research with the community.
