Nuha Azman

Hello fellow knitters and crocheters :) My name is Nuha, a 3rd year Electronic and Electrical Engineering student and your current Equipment Officer! Not for much longer, though, as I hope to be your President for the next year :D

I’ve enjoyed being part of the Knit Soc community for the last 3 years and would love to be ever more involved in the committee in my final year by being President. I am committed to and passionate about continuing this incredible society for the wonderful community we’ve created and if I’m President, I hope to continue our many weekly events for all our knitters and crocheters, no matter your experience level.

I’m not going to be cheesy and weave in knitting puns that put you in a knot ;) but I hope you’ll consider me for Knit Soc President!

P.S. vote Heer for Treasurer! ;)

Adrija Mazumdar

I would like to become the President of the Knitting Society to contribute to its smooth running of it. I am very passionate about knitting, a hobby and skill that has been passed down by my grandmother to me. I really enjoyed the time spent at the society events, both knitting and meeting new people. I would like to ensure that this continues smoothly in the next year too. I have experience in the management of societies which I can bring to the table. In school, I developed good interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a team by being a sub-editor and writer for the Enigma Science Magazine. Furthermore, I had to write and edit science articles within fixed deadlines so that they could be published. Therefore I have good time management and can make sure there are regular events in the knitting society. I also have leadership experience, as the vice-chair of Girls in STEM. I organised a conference event with women scientists and thus I have experience in organising events.

Alexandra Aung

Hi everyone!

You may have seen me a few times:) I was also the president of the society this year but didn't have the opportunity to do as much as I wanted because my placement year was more difficult than I expected aha. I still had a lot of fun though with wonderful people and would love to be on committee again next year.

Hoping to have even more events next year, including lots of collabs like our ones this year with the Cats society, and Taylor Swift society. I have really enjoyed helping teach people how to crochet and I would to do it again and share crocheting and knitting with more people.

I will make sure we have snacks at socials and lots and lots of yarn!!!

Haonan Liu

My experience in the Knitting Society this year has been incredibly enjoyable, and I am eager to take on a more active role in shaping its future.

Throughout my time as a leader in high school, I successfully founded and led a Culture Society for two whole years. I planned themes and activities every semester, organized weekly meetings, and executed three major fundraising events. This experience has equipped me with the skills such as event planning, collaboration, and communication needed to lead the Knitting Society and ensure its success. My commitment and consistency in running a society for two years demonstrate that I have a great sense of responsibility and thereby trust-worthy to organize events twice a week for the Knitting Society next year.

I am committed to ensuring the values of our Knitting Society comply with the Student Union’s regulations. I will make decisions after considering all factors and opinions in the future, and I thrive on coordinating teams and fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and comfortable environment.
I am very excited to work with the other members of the Leadership Committee to enable every member to have a wonderful experience with the Knitting Society next year!

Joselyn Yasmin Effio Mantilla

Hello, fellow crafting enthusiasts!

I am Joselyn Effio Mantilla, 4th year medical student, and I would like to run for president of UCL Knitting Society.

Crocheting and knitting is for everyone, regardless of skill level and preconceived notions. The previous committee did an outstanding job at organising diverse events, from engaging workshops to yarn crawls and holiday themed events. As a president, I would like to continue these events. My aim is to:

1. Showcase the diversity of projects available:  I aim to highlight the breadths of projects suitable for beginners and inspire advanced crafters with new ideas.

2. Give confidence and workshops: Recognizing the challenges face by crafters, I am dedicated to offering workshops focused on skill building. Tackling common stumbling blocks such as mastering stitches or conquering the dreaded magic circle, these sessions will aim to empower members.

3. Charity involvement: Inspired by the charitable initiatives that filled my social media feed, I propose our involvement in events like knitting beanies for Macmillan.

4. Increase social media engagement with posts.

Having been the welfare officer for the Spanish and Latin American society, and treasurer of Skate Club, I understand the intricacies of the SU regulations.

I pledge to lead with enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to fostering a welcome environment so every member feels inspired and supported through their crafting journey whilst adhering to SU regulations.
