Candidates

Blanche Hang

I am Blanche Hang, a second year Global Humanitarian Studies student, and the current social media officer.

I would like to nominate myself as the President of In Aid of UNICEF Society. During the two years with our society, I enjoyed participating in fundraising events and promoting the society's aims and missions among students.

As I majored in Humanitarian Studies, I gained a broader understanding of issues related to children around the globe, such as lack of education, malnutrition, and limited access to aid. All that I have learnt in my course has shaped some exciting ideas to move our society forward and I will dedicate myself to this.

Sasha O'Brien

Hi! My name is Sasha, I’m a second-year Arts & Sciences student with a focus on Psychology and Migration Studies. I am also half Peruvian/half British but grew up in Germany. I am currently a Social Media Officer and would love to be President next year! <3

After volunteering in a refugee shelter’s kindergarten full-time for a year, I became passionate about the UNICEF values. As the president I hope to motivate members to remember the very heart of our society: advocating and fundraising to support every child in need.

I hope to follow the dedication of our previous president to create a welcoming and structured environment. Drawing from my experience with children as a kindergarten teacher, babysitter for four years, and my current role as a nanny, I bring time management, organisation and communication skills that I am confident will benefit our society. I was also elected class president for two years in high school, gaining leadership skills.

I hope to focus on:

  • Specific causes within UNICEF: is there a cause you’re passionate about? As the president, I want to foster your interests and run fundraisers for causes YOU love!
  • Society collaboration: plan fun social events together to gain advocators and make more friends!
  • Outreach to guest speakers: for future careers, professionals giving talks is vital!

I believe I have the passion to run this society and can’t wait to meet everyone. Thank you for your support, I am excited to make your experience the best it can be!

Stephanie Chuang

Hey everyone!! I’m Stephanie, a second-year sociology student from Hong Kong, and I would love to be your president for the In Aid of UNICEF society next year :)

As your social secretary this year and having worked with UNICEF for 4 years in high school evidences my unwavering dedication to supporting children worldwide. I completely stand with UNICEF’s mission in ensuring children’s rights and providing support to reach their potential; and in these times of uncertainty, I believe we must amplify this message to our university and wider community.

As the chairman of my high school UNICEF society and having worked closely with the committee this year, I have gained valuable experience in successfully organizing events to ensure a seamless experience for the members and students involved. I have worked effectively with the team, and hope to continue providing fun but meaningful experiences through our fundraisers, talks and more!

If elected, I propose:

  • More intercollegiate events to connect with other UNICEF societies in London, not only connecting like-minded individuals but also making a larger difference
  • More fun fundraising events with more opportunities for members to volunteer and participate in
  • Continue to reach out to UNICEF to regain connection for support and helpful talks

Therefore, I believe I possess the skills needed to lead our society to continue creating a strong presence in our community and collectively promoting the welfare of children worldwide!
