Cecile Cornthwaite

Hi everyone! I'm Cecile, a first year Language and Culture student, and I'd love to be your HRC welfare officer next year! Though I haven't been a part of the horse riding club for long, I've already experienced the amazing connection that this group provides. Being a part of HRC has given me some amazing horsey opportunities that I hope to provide for many others!

I'm committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive community not only as an individual point of contact but also as a group leader, providing opportunities to build awareness and encouragement around welfare and mental health. My most relevant past experience includes

  • UCL Course Representative 2023/24
  • Music Honour's Society: Social media manager and 11th grade band representative 2021/22
  • US Pony Club advanced level member 2016-2020
  • Multiple years of rehabilitating and training rescue horses, teaching lessons, and competing in jumping and eventing.

As a self-proclaimed horse girl and well experienced leader I’m passionate about my ability to go above and beyond the duties as welfare officer and advance the positivity and openness of our club.

My candidate photo is me (with a carrot in my hand, of course) and Justice, who’s a beast on the cross country course but a goofball on the ground.

Makanaka Mazheke

It is with great enthusiasm and dedication that I present my manifesto for the role of Welfare Officer. As a passionate equestrian and advocate for the well-being of both horses and riders, I am committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment within our club.

My vision is centered on promoting equine excellence while prioritizing the welfare and happiness of all members, both human and equine alike. I aim to cultivate a culture of mutual respect and support within the club, where members feel comfortable seeking guidance and assistance from their peers and mentors. I will also continue to safeguard the confidential reporting system in place for any concerns related to safety, welfare, or misconduct, ensuring that all members feel heard and supported in addressing any issues that may arise. Raising awareness about the importance of equine welfare within the wider university community through social media campaigns, awareness events, and fundraising initiatives is also one of my main goals for the society going forward.
For we are not merely riders on horseback but guardians of a legacy that spans the ages. May the hoofbeats of our faithful companions echo through the halls of eternity.
Forever and always, let us ride!!!
Thank you for your consideration.
