Zaara Atho

Hi I’m Zaara, and I love Geography, especially events centred around Geography! I am nominating myself as Events Director this year because I believe I have several new ideas and insights that I will bring to the table, allowing a more inclusive, active, and enjoyable society.

As a first year member of Geogsoc, I witnessed the diverse range of events hosted and wanted to be a part of this process as I share a love for Geography and event planning. Some would say that being an extensive planner can be scary but I for one love having a good event to plan!

My experience with being a leading member of the student council in my previous school and Essay Club president during sixth form meant that I was often involved with leading, planning, and carrying out events, either within the school community or at times for the general public. Therefore, I am well equipped to handle the logistics and pressure of such a role and am excited to show you what I have in mind.

Some ideas I have include, continuing the current bi-monthly panel sessions with academics in this field, introducing more debates, game nights, and monthly picnics because who doesn’t love some nice company, weather & food?

Elizabeth Ling

I am ambitious and driven to promote the Geographical society, as I realised that many of my peers do not engage in the activities the society has to offer. I am inspired by the society's commitment to create an inclusive environment for students to learn together, encouraging collaborations between UCL Geographical students and external organisations. However, given that the has a wide scope of objectives, from providing career opportunities and social events, I realised a lack of opportunities that reach out to the community. To this end, I want to organise social events that have community engagement, such as conducting workshops for community organisations, so that it not only benefits the community but also provide valuable networking opportunities for students across different departments. With prior experience in planning and publicising large-scale events, I am confident that I can play a contributing role in making the society more accessible and a safe space for students in the Geographical society.
