Education Officer is a full time Sabbatical Officer of the Students’ Union working full time to provide leadership to the Students’ Union’s services. They will lead on representing students’ academic interests to UCL and beyond and lead the Union’s work in influencing UCL to achieve fair, accessible, and high-quality education at UCL.

• Incorporate a period of extended learning in lieu of a static term 3; introducing short courses & internships to boost growth & employability.
• Focus on concerns about single cliff-edge exams & over assessment whilst addressing the bone of contention that is prompt & progressive feedback.
• Promote increased cultivation of multifaceted study spaces to cater to the needs of growing student numbers for meeting & relaxation domains.
• Introduce a credit bearing skills module for reps, society leaders & officers to serve as a token of acknowledgment for personnel integral to UCL's functioning.
Serving as your Education Officer:
• Ensured prioritization of student facilities & experience by the Provost & the Council.
• Initiated a shift from 2 self-certified ECs to 3 free passes in light of concerns surrounding mental health.
• Collaborated with Russel Group SUs to create a manifesto urging the future government to fund HE sustainably & address impacts of escalating costs of living.
• Passed the Academic Flexibility Policy allowing elite athletes to pace their degree in accordance with sports commitments.
• Led the change of Union banking to a more sustainable & ethical alternative.
Working with Camden Council and London Mayor's Office has prompted my realization that every stakeholder is inherently vital to the constitutive function of the developed policy.
When elected as Education officer, there was an ingrained gap within UCL's policy making, where students served as consultants rather than key stakeholders working in tandem. I was able to transform UCL's appraisal of student input by redefining student-staff partnerships and restructuring the Education Zone. I hope to keep enacting sustainable improvisations into existing structures and implementing change for all.
1. Promote good feedback practices and a consistent assessment feedback system across different faculties.
2. Improve the room booking system and increase the availability of group study spaces.
3. Establish academic peer support across different year groups and reduce the potential disruption caused by strikes.
4. Promote simple and consistent procedures for booking personal tutor meetings.
5. In general, make the tuition fee worth it, especially for overseas students who pay £28,100 to £50,300 per year (Undergraduate fees for 2024 to 2025).
As a previous IOE Faculty Rep (Undergraduate, 22/23), I contributed to various meetings such as Education Zone, IOE faculty representative forum, department SSCC meeting, etc.
With the help of numerous students and staff, we promoted a more standardised assessment feedback structure within IOE and achieved the installation of two microwaves in the IOE building.
Through this role, I became familiar with the administrative system of UCL, as well as how complicated and time-consuming it can be to make changes. However, I remain positive and believe that together we can shape UCL.
1. I reply to emails pretty fast (but please refrain from testing it now...).
2. I have a Psychology & Education background (like many people, so this is not very persuasive...).
3. I know how to collect and analyse your feedback. (Fortunately, that's part of what we learn in our programme!)
4. I worked as the undergraduate IOE faculty rep for one year so already have a sense of how many meetings the Education Officer is expected to attend.
5. I have experience teaching students from 3 to 18 years old. (That should be a good indication of patience right?)

As an education officer, I must ensure all those who are under my wing learn how to take advantage of any opportunities that come their way. My job is to ensure individuals are utilising the library, their peers, their module convenors and other members of staff and students to make their experiences much more positive. I hope I will be a positive force who strives for change and acceptance, who is approachable and has a large outlook on life. I want individuals to balance their academics with their social life, uni is meant to be lived through and experienced, not just a focus on assignments!
I am someone who listens, who cares. I remember the tiny details that others may overlook. I have previously volunteered and worked in the public sector so I am aware of the importance of communication and collaboration.
Because I am someone who is very insightful, at first glance I may be shy but once I open up I am the most enthusiastic person. I do not let my words define me, instead my actions. How I present myself is how I would like to be treated. I like to express myself in ways beyond just conversations, through art, psychoanalysis, writing, poetry, photographs especially!
