Hi,

I‘m Sarah and I would like to become the treasurer of the Dutch and Flemish Society for 24/25!

I believe studying Dutch and Management studies already proofs my interest in BENELUX and treasury. However, to further explain, I think I could utilise my accounting knowledge and offer diverse perspectives. Most candidates are likely to have even close links to the Netherlands and/or Flanders, so I could represent non native speakers. Such a contact point is essential for inclusion, especially for those studying Dutch as part of their degree.

This year, I saw that a small number of students held a paid subscription to our society, although there is only a one time £5 fee! As treasurer I would not only record our financial history, but actively look for growth opportunities. I didn’t get the chance to go to the society welcome fair this year, but next year I aim to have a marvellous stand in October, but also January and special events. Furthermore, I would organise more events with the head of socials. Firstly, I would like to start more socials during the day, which is commuter friendly! Ideas like a book club or koffieuurtje have already been discussed. Secondly, as treasurer I’d look out for business opportunities/events/etc in the Netherlands and Flanders. The Netherlands and Belgium are part of the 20 most powerful economies in the world, however this is not always recognised by many. This could attract non Dutch and Flemish students to our society :)

Tot ziens!
