Bella Ealey

My name is Bella and I am a second year English student. I have loved the debate community and it’s important to have socials to bring people together. Debate is great because once you’ve done arguing, you can come to the pub and chat about it over a drink. It’s the perfect society to make friends- we’re all strange and like to argue- and the socials aid this.

This year I have served as social secretary so know the tricks of the trade, but as well as the big events (Halloween and Foundation Dinner), I plan to organise:

  • Fresher’s social
  • Quiz night (BYOB)
  • Committee night out
  • And any other events people want to see. (Can also do ones that don’t involve drowning our sorrows in alcohol)

From yakka to the IOE bar after training, the tradition of socials in debate is an important one! I know which spaces are best for which social, how much they cost and how to encourage people to come.

I value the importance of creating a balance between budget and fun, which can be done.

10 bottles of £4 Lidl wine > 1 bottle of posh wine.

Thanks for reading and I hope you consider voting as I’d love to do more socials!
