Dance Society: Resident Choreographer

There is nothing quite like watching someone bring their vision to a stage, getting to see their creative flow unravel for an audience. However, it can be time consuming and inevitable questions of self doubt occur when attempting to portray your ideas. In applying for resident choreographer, I hope that I can help alleviate some of these worries our choreographers may experience by offering advice but also just being there to listen. Before applying to this role I wanted to ensure I was well versed in the different shows we have to offer, and therefore, I have choreographer for freshers show twice, triple bill and blooms as well as hosting a student workshop. I have also competed with UCL, allowing me to understand the dedication to the society that would be a necessity in this position. My personal style leans towards hip-hop but it is rooted in the intricacies of musicality and textures which tends to transcend the boundaries between the genres. A lot of my pieces also tend to be a fusion ranging between hip-hop, contemporary, street and open styles which will aid my ability in creating finales that suit such a versatile society. In regards to other aspects of the role, I was marketing director for TranscenDance 2024 and thus understand the effort and time that goes into producing and promoting a show. I overall can offer my experience but the main reason I am applying is to welcome and encourage others to the supportive community that is dance society. 

Hello!! My name is Sky and I am a locking dancer. I enjoy a lot of styles, such as hip-hop, popping, house and commercial. I have choreographed for 24-hour show, freshers show and triple bill this year. Therefore I would love to give back to the society by offering my creative input and bringing out the best of every choreographer and dancer.

Being trained in street and classical styles, as well as being a battle dancer, my versatility allows me to be well suited for this role. With RedBull DanceYourStyle, and Nike OwnTheFloor being the biggest events I’ve joined, and dancing at local events with IndaHouse, EpicJam and London Waacking Movement, as well as battles in Hong Kong. I’m also a part of the ballroom scene in the UK and HK, joining multiple vogue balls. 

Also, being trained in nicher styles, like Jazzrock, Soul dance and Old Way vogue, as well as tapping into Vogue Femme territories (Shoutout to my teachers Jimmy, Lil J, Diva and Bronze <3), allows me to provide a fresh insight in choreography. Hence I am confident that I could be of help when choreographers reach out to me.

Dancing is a huge passion, and it's the most heartwarming feeling to see a choreographer's piece coming to life. It would mean the world for me to play a part in making this come true, by guiding them, and choreographing the perfect finale as they take their bow with the dancers they’ve formed a bond with.
