Sonny Lin

Greetings!

I'm Sonny, and I am excited to stand for the position of General Secretary for the Computer Science Society. As someone deeply passionate about fostering community, efficient organization, and inclusivity, I believe I am well-prepared to take on this crucial role.

In my second year at UCL, I took on the role of a Transition Mentor, which allowed me to guide incoming students, share my knowledge, and contribute to their successful transition into university life. Additionally, as the Welfare and Social Officer of the UCL Kendo Club, I organized social events, built connections, and ensured a supportive environment for all members.

My experiences have equipped me with the necessary skills and insights to serve as the General Secretary. I am committed to creating a vibrant and inclusive space within our society. Regardless of backgrounds, everyone should feel welcome and valued.

The Computer Science Society has been a source of fun, learning, and invaluable knowledge for me. I have witnessed the creativity and dedication of our current committee members. I am eager to build upon their success and elevate the Computer Science Society to new heights.

Serving as General Secretary is an opportunity to shape the society’s future while committing to responsibilities, skill acquisition, and hard work. I am prepared to embrace the challenges of this role and collaborate to make the UCL Computer Science Society an even more vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community.

Peter Zhang

Hi everyone! I am Peter Zhang, and I am standing for UCL Computer Science Society General Secretary. In my role as Director of Mentorships at UCL TechSoc, I led the successful inaugural mentorship program, demonstrating my ability to initiate and lead impactful projects. This program significantly enhanced the learning and networking opportunities for our members, illustrating my organisational skills and dedication to improving the society.

Additionally, my active involvement in organising and participating in society events and hackathons showcases my leadership qualities and my enthusiasm for bringing the CS and winder UCL communities together. These experiences have equipped me with the skills and vision necessary to lead the UCL CSS effectively.

My plans for CSS for the 2024/25 academic year includes the following goals:

  1. Increased connectedness and dialogue with industry, by leveraging my professional connections (from firms such as Jane Street, Goldman Sachs, and BCG) and those of the department and committee
  2. A massive-scale flagship hackathon featuring collaborations with numerous London institutions
  3. Utilise the UCL & CSS alumni network to help members network with professionals in their interested fields
  4. Host a variety of workshops and speaker events to align with members' career goals
