Hi everyone! I’m Ann and I would love to be your president! Being part of Lightning has truly been the highlight of my uni experience so far- I felt so welcomed by the community that I instantly knew I wanted to be part of this team.

By actively involving myself through competing on Strike, volunteering in “Helping Children Discover Cheer”, going to socials, and joining Varsity, I gained a strong understanding of the club.

As Welfare Officer for RAX, I gained familiarity with the different aspects of running a club and furthered my communication and organisational skills. With experience as House Captain, I developed team spirit and learnt how to problem-solve when things don’t go as planned, which are important skills for president.

My goals for Lightning:

  • Inclusivity & belonging: bridging the gap between teams to strengthen the bonds of our cheer family <3
  • Increased communication between the members of our society + between the society & Students’ Union, to ensure everything in the club runs smoothly.
  • End-of-season event to meet up with the whole club one last time (so that getting off the bus from comp at 2am is not the last time you see your teammates!)
  • Listening to everyone’s ideas & concerns + putting them into action. My love for cheer & this club ensures that I will give it my all.

Lightning has really helped me develop my sense of belonging at UCL & I hope to share the love & continue building this welcoming, inclusive environment!

Lightning love,

Ann 💜⚡️

Hind Alhajy

Hey guys I’m Hind!

Within the two years of being in cheer, I've experienced what a team sport feels like. I have met some incredible people this year and made some lifelong friends. Being social sec this year granted me the opportunity to meet so many people beyond my team. I tried learning all your names and engaging with you and it has been wonderful. Being part of the committee gave me the chance to get closer to the club and learn how it runs behind the scenes.

I am running for president as I would love to give back and create a positive and friendly environment for new and existing members. I am extroverted, very driven, and ambitious in what I want to achieve!

During my time here I have witnessed the love and support from everyone but also the dedication and commitment. Now I’m committed to taking our club to new measures and ensuring every member feels valued.

As president I want to:

- Prioritise skill development through specialised training sessions and guest workshops to practice flexibility, technique, and safe catching

- Celebrate achievements of individuals, stunt groups, and teams.

- Offer feedback sessions where members can share their thoughts and concerns to improve our club.

- Encourage teams to bond and engage more with the club and each other.

- Invite other university cheerleaders and train together in one of our rec sessions to learn and connect with the cheerleading world.

Thank you, I love you all :)
