While not always popular in the modern world, having a community of Catholics as a support network is vital to maintaining one's faith as a student. This is the fundamental importance of the society in my view: supporting the extraordinary mission of the Church in the ordinary lives of university students. I am standing for the role of president because I believe that having a good running Catholic Society is essential in secular universities such as UCL. I would hope to define the role by developing the activities already offered: for example, maintaining the various prayer groups which are already in place, promoting theological discussions, spiritual reading groups and promoting outreach with charity work at UCL. I have been involved in the SVP soup run and could encourage collaboration between these groups particularly. I feel that I am suited to the role because I am very interested in my faith theologically, spiritually and practically. I think that my experience working in the real world and having to coordinate tasks pragmatically in previous jobs such as at a supermarket and teaching all help with skills such as adaptability, diligence, leadership and decision making. I also do a fair amount of reading around theology and philosophy as they are genuine interests of mine and I regularly attend discussion groups for these, so I feel I could help coordinate activities related to helping people understand their faith. This is why I want to apply for President.
