Dan Wainewright

Hiya I'm Dan! I'd be so honoured to take on the role of social sec but here are a few reasons why you might want to vote me in:

1. Inclusivity
Our socials are for everyone, from fresh new members to long-standing established members, and it's incredibly important that we cater to the diverse groups that we have in RUMSBC. I'm totally committed to ensuring everyone has a good time!

2. My experience
Being in the club for 2 years now I've experienced all kinds of social and I have a feel of what's worked well and what we can take forward into this coming year. While I haven't had the chance to be involved in Boat Club committee I have my fair share of experience with committee meetings and the Student Union from other societies, and I know how to advocate strongly for what's important. Finally, I've had the privilege to watch 2 generations of social secs deliver amazing vibes 24/7 and I'd love the opportunity to take up the mantle and bring that same energy.

3. My enthusiasm
I've attended virtually all the RUMSBC socials this year, even without a committee role. I really want to transform that commitment and deliver back to the society the amazing experiences I've already had. I'm determined to spread some smiles at every occasion and keep our amazing community going.

I hope that these few notes have given you all some food for thought and I'm looking forward to presenting even more next week!

Avanish Shravan

Hey everyone, I’m Avanish and I’m running for social sec! My favourite memories at uni have undoubtedly been at RUMSBC socials so I'm eager to carry on that tradition for both current and future members.

From once being the only fresher at sports night to attempting (unsuccessfully) to shepherd a barely conscious Adam Jones home, I believe I have demonstrated my commitment to the club and to looking out for others. I'm dedicated to working closely with the rest of committee and contributing to social events that cater to various interests to cultivate a club environment that’s inclusive and safe for everyone.

This goes hand in hand with fresher integration which is a priority of mine. I want to keep organizing socials that draw in freshers while still making sure they feel comfortable and not pressured into anything. With the help of the novice captains, I hope to foster that same sense of community which has kept me hooked since my first sports night.

Lastly, having attended nearly every social, I believe I have a solid understanding of the responsibilities that come with being social sec. I’m confident in my ability to run circle and organise an unforgettable tour which hopefully lives up to the characteristic organised chaos that RUMSBC socials usually bring!

Ella Chawla

Hi, I’m Ella and I’d love to be your social sec next year!! Since my third day of uni, I’ve been wholeheartedly committed to the boat club socials and, whilst fresher sportsnight feels like a fever dream, turning up at The Huntley that night is genuinely the best choice I’ve made in the last two years. The rumsbc community is the reason I’ve been to nearly every social event since joining the club and I’d love to be involved in organising the chaotic activities for you all to enjoy next year.

My main focuses would be integrating freshers into the club as early as possible by getting them involved in sportsnight etc from the beginning of the year, as well as working with the novice captains to hold mixed novice socials early on so they can all get to know each other away from the water. The club’s traditions have made some of my best memories and I’m keen to keep these alive whilst also working with the inclusivity officer to come up with a variety of non-drinking-based socials that everyone in the club will be able to enjoy. Vote for me for another crazy year with your nearest and dearest xxx
