Boat club has been a blessing whilst at UCL, showing me so much love and support, and it’s time to give back to a club that has given me so much. Hopefully, you’ve all seen my face around either a socials, rowing, or underneath boats. Throughout my time as boatswain, I’ve been dedicated and committed, spending spare time down at the boathouse and I know putting the extra work in is something I would carry forward into the role of president. As boatswain I've worked with many roles, developing appreciation of the intricacies of each position. The collaboration and cohesion of our large committee is something I would like to develop further next year. We've made incredible improvements in all areas since I joined the club and its paramount we continue that trajectory. The following are areas I would like to focus on.

  • Longevity of the club – continue positive culture change and the renewal of equipment, implement and standardise handover handbooks.
  • Rowing - block out time for specific land training for all squads to improve groups.
  • Socials – support social secs in finding low-cost options for certain socials.
  • Welfare and inclusivity – continued signposting to reporting form, continue the great wellbeing socials. Increase the breadth of impact for inclusivity socials.
  • Improve accessibility of committee– google form – with the option to be anonymous for suggestions and aggrievances.
  • More committee cohesion – committee socials and more visibility of what each role is doing.
Zakira Klico

Hi, I’m Kira and I’m running for President!

My time with RUMSBC has proved that rowing is more than just a sport. As President, I see the opportunity to translate my love for RUMSBC into tangible actions that can help others to experience the same sense of growth, camaraderie, and joy that I have found within our club.

During my two-year captaincy, it has been so rewarding to see our senior squads transform. I've also gained valuable insight into what it takes to run this club by working with every member of committee and the union.

My main aims are:

Communication & transparency

  • Use bi-termly feedback mechanisms to ensure that every member has a voice in shaping the direction of our club
  • Explore innovative fundraising strategies for the club, whilst promoting funding available to members to facilitate better access to this sport

Welfare & inclusivity

  • Strive for continuous improvement of committee welfare training & open it up to all club members, with better signposting for raising concerns & safety on nights out
  • Champion important issues in our community through involvement in initiatives like RTHM, Rainbow Races & Pride in Sport

Rowing

  • Prioritise the acquisition of working engines to optimise the development and safety of crews, captains and coaches!
  • Education on the flag system & formalise outing contingency plans

I cannot wait to give back to this incredible club and, with your support, I know that we can build an even stronger RUMSBC community for

Pawel Ogrodnik

Hey everyone!

I’m Paweł, and I have loved boat club since the very start of my time at university, and I hope to be able to serve as president!

As treasurer, I’ve learned not only the intricate details of the finances, priorities and workings of the boat club, but crucially also how to cooperate with the union. Furthermore, I would be excited to bring my experiences outside of boat club, such as being an academic rep or my work internships, which further enabled me to develop my leadership skills, while also growing my ability to collaborate with others to deliver, even under pressure.

Therefore, through my commitment as treasurer, secretary or rower, I’ve developed a thorough understanding of what makes the club tick – and I know that I can combine that with my experience from beyond the club to deliver a successful presidency.

Priorities that I would focus on would be:

Performance: We have made incredible progress this year, and the momentum is there – it would be paramount to me that we maintain it, so that next year’s UH medals can be ours.

Equipment: I want to use my experience of working with the union and possible sponsors to make sure that our equipment can serve us reliably and that our outings are not limited by technical faults.

Inclusivity: Everyone is welcome at boat club – and I will commit myself to making sure that the club’s culture reflects that, through working closely with the social secs and the inclusivity officer.

Thank you and see you at AGM!

Rahul Belavadi
