Boat Club: Novice Men's Captain

At the heart of every boat club is its Novs. With a group of strong Novs, a boat club prospers, and without them, a boat club dies. I want to be Novice Men's Captain for that very reason - to train the Novs up, and see the process through of turning students into rowers.

For the coming year, if I am elected, I am ready to create a group of Novs that are as technically capable and as powerful as possible. I am prepared to put in the hours into each erg and water session, not only to coach the year's Novs through training, but to be there with them to support them as they train. I will place special effort in working with the UCLBC's coaches to develop an effective training plan for the Novs, and in implementing that plan, I will be with the Novs every step of the way.

I hope to foster a strong sense of community amongst the crew at the same time, in whatever way I can. Races are won by strong, tech-y rowers, yes, but to get to that point, you need a crew that is ready to dedicate a huge portion of their time to rowing as a sport. To do that, you need rowers that love the sport and love working for it - and that requires a good environment amongst the rowers themselves. Nurturing that kind of community will be a large priority of mine as UCLBC captain.

I am hopeful that through my efforts, I will work towards creating a boat club that will thrive for the year to come. I believe that being Novice Men's Captain will be my way of doing exactly that.
