Aryan Anand

Hello. My name is Aryan and I am a first-year Biomedical Sciences student running for treasurer. Being University students, we all know how important it is to budget, be financially intelligent and have fun at the same time. Hence, I aim to maximise the Biomedical Sciences Society experience through various events, socials and opportunities while keeping fees cheap and the books balanced.

Being a member of the cricket society I understand the importance of fostering camaraderie along with a vibrant culture where every voice is heard and valued. Since we are a big course, we should look to do the same and make the most of our time here at a top university and this can be achieved through engaging events and socials that provide many chances to interact and network. As treasurer, I am absolutely committed to allocate appropriate resources to effectively support our society and strengthen bonds which will enrich your experience and mine.

Lastly, I would like to share a few ideas I have if elected as Treasurer:

  • Find sponsors for our society

  • Hold career opportunity conferences

  • Hold networking events

  • Launch a line of UCL Biomedical Science Society merchandise

These goals are only possible with your vote and I will work closely with fellow committee members to make this possible.

Thank you.

Ben Leung

I am enthusiastic about taking on this society's treasurer role as I believe it will contribute greatly to its success. From coordinating costs associated with events, both social and networking and beyond, I am eager to make full use of available resources to make this society as engaging as possible.

Through managing extracurricular activities during my time at secondary school, I have been able to develop a firm foundation for financial management, including budgeting and tracking expenses. Through this, I have also been able to develop a keen eye for detail which I believe will be key to tracking expenses and planning for the long term.

Furthermore, my ability to communicate and collaborate with others will make me well-suited to participate in discussions with other committee members to ensure that this society can meet its objectives or plans if necessary.

I am eager to contribute my skills to support the Biomedical Science Society's activities and initiatives and I look forward to contributing to its success for now and beyond.

Devani Patel

I am standing for the role of treasurer in the Biomedical Sciences society because I believe in funding opportunity. I see managing the finances as a powerful way of improving the experience of being part of the society. Others have described me as very organised, with a good ability to communicate. This will help me work well with the other committee members to ensure that the most deserving causes get funded adequately. Transparency and responsibility are essential as a treasurer, and I strive to maintain those values. When I came to the social, I particularly liked the goal of connecting more students together. I am dedicated to my course and fellow students, and I see running for committee member as the best way to emphasise this. As it is a new society, I want to help build it up to have a lasting positive impact, that will make a change to student satisfaction within Biomedical Sciences. My vision for the society includes providing opportunities and support for Biomed students so they truly thrive at university.

Shobana Chandrashekar

I'm a second-year BioMed student (Drug Mechanism stream) and I'm very excited at the prospect of being on the committee and creating a welcoming and wholesome place for all BioMed students. I have personally felt the need for such a society/community within UCL for us to meet, chat, and engage in career and academic-related events where we can all support and learn from one another. As the Treasurer of another society last year, I have experience working with the Student Union and with a committee to fulfill the vision and mission of the society. I am keen to make the best use of the funding and resources provided by the SU to organize events and socials for our student community and potentially acquiring sponsorships for larger scale events.

Emily Yang

Hello everyone! This is Emily, a 1st year biomedical sciences student running for Treasurer.

I would like to contribute to the committee because I am eager to show you what this new society can offer. As a Course Representative, I have participated in the SSCC meetings with our course organisers and have heard many ideas from each year group in our course and would love to work with the committee to initiate these from this year.

I have had an experience working as the Treasurer at my school’s Environmental Society and have familiarised myself with Excel, which will be the key tool used for tracking expenses, budgeting and maintaining financial records. After a year, I became the society’s President and initiated a £20,000 Greenhouse Project, which shows my dedication and organisational skills.

As the Chairperson of the Student Council and House Captain at high school, I have developed effective communication and time-management as well.

Being a First Year Rep of ABACUS and Sub-committee of Japan Society helped me to understand how a UCL society and the Student Union are run, which would be helpful with such a start-up society.

I will ensure that there is a smooth communication within our committee, especially regarding financial matters and additionally, will constantly provide support to our team and listen to our members’ voices. I hope that through this, I can give something back to my course and everyone can get the most out of this society!

Justin Lam

I am eager to take on the role of treasurer for this society due to my passion in biomedical sciences, my interests in finance and consulting, and my commitment to the society's mission. I believe that with my interests in finance and management, the treasurer role will teach me a lot about financial planning, budgeting and money management

I believe being treasurer of this society will allow me to gain experience in fields such as managing finances, financial planning, etc. I believe that this role will help strengthen my organizational and planning skills while taking on a leadership role which will benefit me in the real world. The role involves decision-making, collaboration, teamwork and overall responsibility for the financial well-being of the society.

I am also looking forward to bringing a collaborative and communicative approach to working as a team. As a member of sport socieities, I understand the importance of communication and teamwork, especially amongst a committee that runs a society. I am looking forward to working with other committee members to manage the society's resources, providing a fun and educational calender year for other members of the society.
