ABACUS is a very friendly and welcoming society, and I have met many amazing people through it. Therefore, I am excited to bring my love for sports to ABACUS. As a passionate figure skater, I have spent years honing my skills on the ice. Apart from skating, I also did athletics and basketball. I believe sports are a great way to make friends while promoting physical and mental well-being. As someone who values teamwork and wants to spread positivity through sports, I want to take this opportunity to run for Sports Secretary. I wish to orchestrate a range of fun internal and external sports events and tournaments, creating a lively sports culture that caters to the varied interests and skill levels of our members. Moreover, as a Welfare Officer, I believe I can become a reliable source of support to our members by offering assistance during challenging times with my easy-going and compassionate personality. I am a great listener, and my friends like coming to me when they encounter difficulties. Drawing from my past experiences, including my involvement in fundraising events as a college charity representative and my contributions to a joint-school association's bazaar and mentorship program, I believe I can serve as a valuable member of the ABACUS committee. I am eager to use my skills and experiences to contribute positively to ABACUS’s inclusive sports culture while prioritising the well-being of our members.

Hi everyone! I’m Antony, a 1st year biological sciences student running for sports sec and welfare officer. I was born in the UK but am originally from Hong Kong!

The ABACUS sports events have been one of the highlights of my year at UCL and I would love to help organise these events that enabled me to meet friends and settle into university life!

I’ve been around sports and organising events since I was very young, and I believe participating in sports events is one of the best ways to meet people. Having played competitive squash and football since I was 7, I have been immersed in organised sports and have built an extensive knowledge about how to run a successful event. As my dad was a former football coach, I was involved in organising matches and socials for the team, leading me to develop key organisational skills. I have also been involved in the UCL squash 1s, having to help organise teams and sort out seedings during matches.

My goals as sports sec would be to organise an ABACUS 11 a-side football team, add a wider range of sports to the calendar, as well as hosting some sports more than once, depending on popularity.

Being inclusive is also a large factor in running a successful event, and as the role also doubles up as welfare officer, having fun can only happen if everyone at the events is feeling safe and included. I would like to say I’m easy to talk to, and I would encourage anyone feeling uncomfortable to approach me with any concerns :)
