Hey everyone, my name is Marcus and I’m running for vice-president this year. I spent the year participating in various ABACUS events and I can safely say that this society is central to some of my favourite UCL memories so far. Having met people from a variety of different backgrounds through this society, I have seen how the greatest strength of ABACUS is its diversity. As vice-president I hope to make sure that all ABACUS members are able to experience the same sense of welcoming and belonging.

I understand that one of the main responsibilities of being vice-president is planning the numerous social dinners and organising other events throughout the year. In my experience, the greatest strength of these dinners has been the opportunities to socialise and connect with other society members, and I will strive to ensure that the dinners will be organised such that these opportunities are afforded to everyone who participates. This aim also extends to the wider array of casual events I would like to organise, where I am hopeful that there will be something for everyone.

Having led the Overseas Council at my previous school, I have learnt essential time-management, teamwork, and communication skills. My experiences have taught me the importance of maintaining a cohesive team and I hope to use my skills to both support the president in their duties and be the key communicator between president and the rest of the committee - ensuring that ABACUS will continue to flourish.
