Kylie Chan

Hi guys!

My name is Kylie and I am running for General Secretary for ABACUS this year. I am a girl who has been continuously exposed to two cultures: my birthplace, Hong Kong, and my second home, England. After interactions with people from similar backgrounds in ABACUS events this year, I have found my sense of identity within my Asian heritage. Therefore, I would like to dedicate myself to be part of this society to celebrate my Asian culture with others.

My passion for social media and experience in the marketing field is what inspired me to apply for this role. As a health and wellness influencer on Instagram, I am familiarised with strategies for successful content creating such as evaluating consumer trends and algorithms. PR gifts and invites have also equipped me with skills to improve brand visibility. As a beginner at Youtube, I am accustomed to apps such as Adobe and Canva. While interning at Tatler Asia, formulating events with the marketing team has honed my collaborative skills and provided an insight into statistical analysis of data.

My goal as General Secretary is to engage a larger audience to participate in ABACUS through social media. Some of my ideas include creating reels of major events and using hashtags to enhance engagement and drive traffic towards ABACUS's Instagram.

I would be thrilled to be elected for General Secretary of ABACUS next year and have the opportunity to become a committee member of this diverse cultural community.

Anna Wu

The key idea of 'family' within the ABACUS community strongly resonates with me, as close bonds are fostered throughout well-managed events across each year. As general secretary, I aim to uphold the aims of attracting a wide audience by promoting events and managing the instagram page. I believe I am best suited for this role due to my creativity and imagination as I have a background in art, as well as my communication skills that I have countlessly developed through previous jobs and promoting other events, such as for PK.

Grabbing the attention of freshers in particular would be crucial, however, I aim to balance quantity and quality, providing an enjoyable and memorable year as general secretary. Being prompt, efficient and flexible allows me to fit within this position perfectly. I will fulfil the role of attracting newcomers within the society through catchy posts and captions, because of my own passion for visual arts and desire to connect with people of the same interests. I am direct and punctual which allows for structured communication across other ABACUS society members.

I am familiar with the difficulties in adjusting to university life for freshers. One thing that helped me was the connections I found through ABACUS events; the warmth of comforting cuisine and socialising with like-minded people kept me afloat during my first year at UCL.

Julia Chan Myae

Taking the role of the General Secretary for UCL Abacus Society, a vibrant and socially dynamic society, is a role perfectly tailored to my strengths and aspirations. With my passion for the administration of the club, being detail-oriented, and a knack for fostering a lively atmosphere, i am well-positioned to elevate society's engagement to new heights. My previous experiences organizing successful night outs and society events in high school and sixth grade have not only sharpened my organisational skills but also honed my ability to create memorable experiences that resonate with diverse members from different cultural backgrounds. My commitment to effective communication and collaboration will ensure that every member feels included, valued, and eager to participate.  As a general secretary, I am committed to transforming ordinary events into extraordinary experiences. I support the work of the club chair by managing meetings, dealing with any administration regarding the club constitution, and creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere that fosters lasting connections among the members. I see this role as an opportunity to not only facilitate enjoyable nights out but to contribute to the overall sense of camaraderie and unity within our society. My vision for the role of general secretary extends beyond the administrative, it encompasses the cultivation of a tight-knit community where every member looks forward to engaging, connecting and making lasting memories.

Dion Ho

I am eager to run for General Secretary for several compelling reasons. Firstly, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to take on a leadership role where I can use my dedication, organisational and creative skills to handle administrative tasks, organise events and activities and design graphics for posters. Secondly, it offers a chance to utilise social media platforms like Instagram to increase Abacus' visibility, promote events, and connect with our fellow Abacus students. Moreover, I believe that serving as General Secretary will enable me to actively contribute to fostering  a sense of community and inclusivity within Abacus. Ultimately, I am motivated by the desire to make a positive impact and create memorable experiences for all members of our society.
