Phoebe T Chen

Although most people have only gotten to know me better in the past 4 months. I've attended almost all the events hosted by TWSOC. While some members may wonder why I'm only now applying to become part of the committee as a Year 4 student who will soon be graduating, I'd like to share some context. Due to COVID and a gap year, I spent the past two years in Taiwan and was unable to participate in committee activities during that time. However, I did help with the video publication of the Food Festival during my first year, and upon returning to London, I eagerly attended nearly all the events this year. In fact, I even organized an after-party for almost 20 people at the bowling event last month, which I'm grateful to say was a success. I would like to take my last year at UCL an important chance to provide TWSOC with valuable leadership experience I had during the two years of my working experience as the team leader.

While I was in Taipei, I worked full-time in interior design, starting as a Designer's Assistant and eventually becoming a Design Leader responsible for overseeing four projects. This experience taught me valuable communication, leadership as well as project management skills that I believe will be beneficial in leading TWSOC as president. As a Design Lead, I not only needed knowledge in the design field, but also had to lead other design assistants and interns to complete tasks so they could eventually take on important responsibilities on their own. As the president I will not be an individual, I will need

From my perspective, I consider myself to be a responsible individual with a burning desire to contribute positively to society through organizing various events and activities. This is why I am standing for the position of president. I firmly believe that leadership entails motivating others to work together towards a common objective, while also establishing accountability and responsibility.

As a president, I possess the required expertise and competencies to be an effective leader. These include outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, efficient collaboration, and sound decision-making capabilities. Additionally, I would demonstrate leadership through acting with honesty and integrity in all my interactions with the committee and members.

Being a leader calls for one to inspire and motivate others to be the best they can be. I strongly believe that effective communication is essential in achieving this goal. As a leader, I would endeavor to communicate in a clear and concise manner, ensuring that everyone understands the message and their role.

In conclusion, I am confident that I possess the skills, experience, and character required to be an effective president. My desire to make a positive impact on society drives me, and I believe that I can inspire others to do the same. I would lead with honesty and integrity while promoting collaboration and inclusivity to make our society better.
