I am standing for the position of Vice President of Surgical Society because I thoroughly enjoyed my role as workshops coordinator for the International Undergraduate & Foundation Surgery Conference (iNUGSC) 2023. It gave me the opportunity to discuss innovative surgical ideas with Surgeons from across the globe and develop my organisation and communication skills which I believe equip me well to uphold the legacy of iNUGSC and Surgical Society.
As Vice President my focus will be to increase access to information on Surgical careers by:
- Promoting community amongst members of Surgical Society by providing more networking opportunities.
- Working closely with the Surgical Society media team to more clearly present the opportunities available to members.
- Increasing the iNUGSC widening participation scheme, by informing more local schools about the conference.
- Reading and responding to feedback on iNUGSC 2023 to increase participation next year.

Being Vice President of SurgSoc would be an incredible privilege and I am committed to giving my all to this role. As well as consistently working hard to push for innovative ideas, I am passionate about respecting my team and ensuring everyone’s thoughts are heard. Furthermore, I am excited by the prospect of directing iNUGSC 2024; I believe I can build on the hard work of previous organisers to prepare a fantastic event.
As workshop coordinator for iNUGSC 2023, I have been liaising with this year's VP to develop captivating workshops. Additionally, as events officer for UCL Wilderness Med Soc, I hosted an international conference with participants from thirteen countries. These events have given me first-hand experience of organising international conferences and I have amalgamated specific skills that will be especially useful as VP. For instance, I was able to remain adaptable, problem-solving when speakers withdrew their attendance. We worked as a team to overcome these obstacles while staying resilient. I understand the importance of having a clear plan with pre-determined checkpoints, ensuring targets are achievable by considering other commitments. As sponsorship officer for the National Medical Research Association, I also hold experience with the financial aspect of running a society, having established sponsorship deals and created a sponsorship brochure. I am comfortable in integrating all these skills to coordinate activities within SurgSoc.
