I am extremely passionate about cardiothoracic surgery, and I am particularly keen to help other medical students at UCL learn more about this specialty. There are three key areas I will focus on if you elect me as your cardiothoracic surgery chair.

Firstly, whilst surgical society runs a general shadowing programme, I want to create a specific cardiothoracic surgery shadowing scheme. I am already in contact with a heart surgeon at Bart’s who is very accommodating to students who want to come into theatre. I believe that creating this programme is a great way to grow interest in cardiothoracic surgery at UCL and allow students to experience what the career involves.

Secondly, I’d like to enhance the collaboration with cardiothoracic surgery societies at other London universities by organising joint events, with the aim of creating a network of students in London who have an interest in the specialty. These events will offer students a chance to meet like-minded individuals and discuss their experiences within surgery.

Thirdly, I will ensure that students at UCL who want to gain experience in cardiothoracic surgery have the means to do so, by putting them in contact with a heart surgeon. Everyone should have the opportunity to get involved and I want this process to be fair and inclusive.

Vote for me and I will continue the hard work that Emma has put in this year to create more opportunities for students at UCL to get involved in cardiothoracic surgery.
