Thalia Letrilliart

Hey! I’m Thalia, a second year from France :)

I’ve always loved the ocean and water sports, but only started surfing 2 years ago… on a UCL Surf trip! - although some would argue I spent more time taking pictures than in the water.

I’ve made so many fun memories with the surf club since then, and would love to be next year’s social sec to make other members’ experiences just as memorable as mine has been! I can guarantee that my organising socials skills will prove to be much more advanced than my surfing!

Some ideas are:

  • The usual bar/pub meetups
  • Themed nights (karaoke/game night…)
  • Get-togethers to watch surf movies/comps
  • Joint uni socials
  • And some more casual ones including skatepark and Primrose Hill/park socials in the warmer months
  • + if members are interested could do some volunteer activities (ex: beach clean-ups, charity partnerships) since we all love the ocean and should want to take care of it!!

Any other ideas from members will be more than welcome by me!

As social sec, I promise to get us together as often as possible to spread good vibes, even when the nearest beach is hours away!

Lucia Fernandez Barreiros

Social secs don't have to live up to any surfing expectation, and that is where I, Lulu, come in. Having "surfed" twice and both with ucl surf club makes me a faithful member, and someone you can trust to represent the club. When surfing, I mostly spend my time in 'the washing machine': when waves roll you around like the dirty laundry you have been putting off for a week.

I may not be able to teach you how to ride a wave, but I can surely keep the party going until sunrise as a true Spaniard would. You can count on me for any social activity (aka a drink) any time of the day, any time of the week - whatever excuse to escape my biochemistry duties. I'm a keen bean when it comes to going out, which I believe makes me perfectly qualified for this job.

I joined the surf club to tick off surfing from my bucket list, but also to meet fun and friendly people - and I have not been let down! With me as social sec fun will be guaranteed, having many themed socials in mind and most importantly mind-blowing trips to forget uni exists at all!

Yours truly, from your (hopefully) future eager beaver social sec :))

Jackson Cheung

When I joined surf club 2 days before the Portugal trip, I didn’t expect to make so many friendships and have so many amazing memories (skinny-dipping in some coldass water in panorama beach), but now after the Portugal and Morocco trips, there’s nothing that I’m more certain of than my passion to run for Social Sec. As Social Sec, I hope to:

  1. Organise more Socials such as Scala afters, including fun themes (see sponge-bob).
  2. Organise events with more beginner friendly activities (such as Bristol Wave pool), as a beginner I can see how some people might feel a bit left out
  3. Organise socials during surf trips like going to bars/clubs, bonfires and meals as a group so everyone gets to know each other and the trips feel more close-knitted

Lastly (and most importantly), I'll try to convince the treasurer to use more of the budget on free drinks for everyone ;))

Charlotte Burdon

Hey! I'm Charlotte, a second year Biomed student.

I got into surfing a while ago and never expected to find a surf community in London. But, for the past two years, I've had the best time as a member of surf club. So, I want to get involved!

As social sec, I want to make people's experience as open and great as mine has been. I would guarantee that when we're not shredding in the waves, surf socials are the next best thing! You'll even forget that we're not by the sea! You can definitely expect funky themes and new ideas from me.

I'm very motivated and love to have great time! I actually have experience as social sec for tennis society and would love to give it a go for surf.

If you're gnarly, vote for me!

Ruari C Woodhead

Hey all,

My name is Ruari. I'm currently a first-year anthropology student that of course loves to surf. I've never been on one of the incredible surf trips due to the expenses. So I want to create an atmosphere on the surf socials that are on par with the trips so nobody feels left out if they can't make the trips. Also, I can organise a mean pub crawl.

I'll see you at the next social,

Ruari
