Safiyah Moloobhoy

Stage Crew has been an important part of my university experience so far and I want to continue to get involved. I believe I would be a strong candidate for VP due to my experience in being a part of multiple show weeks over the last two years, which helps me understand how Stage Crew runs but also understand where the president might need support. I work well in teams, as a good listener, which can help with balancing the president's workload by taking responsibility where they might need it rather than taking the lead. I have strong communication and organisation skills, having balanced 2 committee positions and being a volunteering project leader this academic year, which also gave me experience in event organising and scheduling, welfare discussions with teams and managing all admin/ email communications for the Geography society. This would give me good experience to organise trainings for example, as well as managing meeting minutes or listening to member concerns when the president is unavailable. I hope to make the Stage Crew team stronger and am excited to continue being involved with the society.

(note: I'm also running for social secretary but this is my preferred position)

Tom Hughes

Hi. I'm Tom, a first-year student studying Global Humanitarian Studies. Since September, I've enjoyed being in Stage Crew, working on various shows and developing my technical skills, particularly in lighting design.

I'm standing for VP as I can use my skills and experiences to bring a lot to the role. As an experienced committee member of the Scouts, I can effectively handle governance and admin. Also, I’ve developed strong management, organisational and interpersonal skills through leadership positions on shows and at school.

Firstly, if elected, I would enhance training by organising more training sessions next year, utilising experienced members, and want to bring in external speakers for workshops on advanced concepts and working in the industry. With my lighting design and QLab experience, I can support members and plan to learn sound design and stage management skills to support others in the future.

Equally, I aim to support committee members in achieving their goals while maintaining the expected responsibilities of VP. Specifically, I'd adapt the role to address any internal issues, including leading some external or garage shows and helping coordinate blooms shows to alleviate the workload of these roles. Also, supporting the welfare officer is essential, and I understand the importance of being present during prod weeks to check on crew members.

I’m thrilled to run for VP and hope to work closely with all of you to continue making Stage Crew a success.
