The Snowsports of 2022 is very different to the one I joined back in 2017: it is more open, inclusive, and much less intimidating (or so I believe).  My aim, should I be elected VP, is to preserve this culture while helping to increase the size of the ski trip, and the number of social and competitive members, back up towards pre-pandemic levels.

Having served on a Snowsports committee facing similar challenges (in 2018 we were also looking to increase trip numbers), I know how much effort it takes to work on the behind-the-scenes committee business alongside engaging with potential new members and trip-goers.

I plan to use the skills (especially organisational ones) that I have developed working and starting postgraduate study, alongside my 3 previous years on committee, to help set out, alongside the President and Treasurer, a clear timetable and checklist for the new year so that everything runs smoothly.

I further aim to push for us to become more engaged with EDI and sustainability issues.  This could include collaborations with other clubs; a clearer reporting structure; using sustainable brands for merch; and greater involvement with union welfare training sessions (which should be promoted to everyone).

Overall, I hope that my dedication to the club and previous experience on committee will allow me to efficiently support other members of committee and help put in place organisational structures that will benefit both this and future committee members.

As a fresher to the club, I have been made to feel so welcome from day one. I want to support running the club and let other people find that same sanctuary in Snowsports, amongst the stress of university life.

To start with, I considered running for multiple roles and came to the conclusion that VP would therefore be the perfect position for me. I can utilise all the ideas I had for different positions and work closely with each committee member to ensure that we're fulfilling our potential as a club. My previous committee experience means that I know exactly what it takes to be successful within both this role and the committee.

My main goals include:

  • Creating a schedule for social media posts, including weekly/monthly timetables and round-ups, to engage with the biggest audience possible
  • Sending out a weekly/monthly timetable and round-up email to keep members engaged
  • Securing more benefits for our members from both snow and non-snow sports companies, making sure these are advertised well and everyone knows about them
  • Fulfilling our fundraising potential – we can do so much more for our charities whilst having fun at the same time!
  • Focusing on inclusivity, particularly towards beginners on the trips
  • Engaging more with other societies and universities across London, to create opportunities for members to meet new people and try new things

I have so much more to bring and know how to deliver it. It would be an honour to be given the opportunity :)
