Riza K Mirza

Hi! I'm Riza, your current Welfare & Engagement Officer. During the past year, I've had a blast keeping our IG page slick and running events alongside the BEST committee ever. My goal is to continue to work towards making this society a welcoming and enjoyable environment, which is why I am running for re-election. I have served on five different societies' committees, including being the SSEES Student Ambassador, and currently as the Projects Assistant for the Student Support and Wellbeing Team at UCL. Our little corner of the university is quite special, and I believe I can use my vast experience to bring out the best in our department. I thoroughly believe our members deserve a space where their voices are heard and valued, and I will work hard to ensure everyone has a positive experience. So don't just vote for me so that our social media looks pretty but also because you want to ensure your society is run by someone qualified, trustworthy, and approachable.

Mariam Vekua

Hi all! My name is Mariam and I am a first year HPE student. As welfare officer, I would aim to:

- promote inclusivity by making SSEES society a welcoming environment for students of diverse backgrounds.

- increase social activity by organising more social wellbeing events using the available additional UCL welfare funding. I believe this could have a positive impact on the students' mental health, which is my main priority.

I have experience of being an academic representative, which made me aware of the various issues students face regarding their mental health and wellbeing. This experience has also helped me develop communication, sensitivity and conflict management skills. I believe these make me a suitable candidate to be your next welfare officer.

Thank you for reading my manifesto! Feel free to ask me any questions about it by contacting me at [email protected].

Yangyang Zhao

Hi,

My name is Yangyang Zhao, an incoming third-year History, Politics and Economics student and I am here running for Welfare and Engagement Officer at SSEES Society.

Getting student's voices heard to enhance their experience at SSEES is the number one priority for the purpose of running for this election, and I plan to do that by:

1. Regularly collecting students' feedback on areas such as resource accessibilities, society-organised socials, career-related workshops and events, and more; then cooperate with other branches to find solutions to the problems raised;

2. Providing information related to mental health support and where to seek for support through online social media, especially before exam seasons.

3. Establishing an inclusive environment. Promoting diversities and cultures at SSEES through attending more to the engagements of international students.

4. Creating more students voting opportunities specifically on their choice of socials/events;

5. Posting timely information online in clear and effective manner.

6. Incorporate sustainability goals with improving students' experiences eg. book swap events (with the Events branch)

I hope to provide the best service for members of the SSEES Society if elected, and all the best to your exams in May!

Yangyang
