I have been with RAX since the beginning of 2022, with my passion for running and athletics stemming from being a competitive athlete throughout secondary school. I initially joined RAX due to wanting to partake in the Social Runs and I really enjoyed getting to know the other students.

I have stood as interim social secretary since Term 2 and have become familiar with the organisational and financial aspect of the role. My first aim for RAX next year is improving inclusivity. Currently, there is a lack of focus on the Athletics side of the club, which don’t have many socials organised after their events. I want to ensure that Running, Athletics and Cross Country all receive the same amount of dedication and time. Furthermore, there is a serious lack of union within the club. I want to bring together all aspects of the club, with larger socials that can enable for the 3 groups to meet and learn from each other. Secondly, I want to provide more variety to the socials. Currently, the socials have been repeated or very similar. Proving variety to the socials will cause more people to engage with the socials. I want to organise socials that include trying different sports and involve more collaboration with other societies, such as hiking, tennis or swimming. I want to provide more non-alcoholic socials, such as coffee socials, pizza/ pancake making socials, quiz night and karaoke as well as alcoholic socials at the Phineas and the IOE bar.

Overall, I think RAX has a huge amount of potential, with the Social Runs often

Lilie Gailloud

Hi everyone! I’m Lilie and I’m currently studying Biomedical Sciences in my second year.

RAX has been very important to me in my time at UCL, as the social runs have motivated me to get back into running after a break. Now I am more passionate and committed than before, and therefore would love to get more involved by taking on the role of Social Secretary. I personally find the RAX community to be very welcoming and encouraging, so as part of the committee I would ensure others also get the best experience from this club and feel as included as I do.

To bring our team closer together, I would organise a wide range of fun social activities such as pizza nights, board game socials, themed pub crawls and, of course, attending Scala sports nights as a club. Additionally, I would tailor socials to group preferences by regularly reaching out to you and finding out what events you would like to see.

I would make social events a regular part of RAX so that you have the opportunity to meet new faces and spend more time with fellow runners. I hope this will strengthen our team spirit, encourage more people to join our club and let us simply have fun running with (new) friends!

I'm standing as social secretary for UCL RAX society becuase ultimately I love running and the community of people that do it! RAX was the first society I joined at UCL and was where I met some of my first friends. RAX is filled with amazing athletes and we consistently perform well in competitions.

But those who work hard also play hard! I will place greater emphasis on the importance of social events, as I believe social events are essential in not only forming a close team, but making friends. Just like I have seen with other UCL sports teams, I believe RAX should have the same social scene.

If selected I will work very hard to organise more social events - pub nights and crawls, themed drinking events, picnics and other wholesome activities, movie nights, and a variety of other fun social events.

Thanks for your consideration! Regardless of what happens, I'm looking forward to another year ahead of being apart of the UCL RAX community!

Thanks,

Theo Mully
