Rare FM: President

My name is Alexia Mihaila, I am a fourth-year Arts & Sciences undergrad and I'm running as president of Rare FM! 

Having been Head of Music for over two years and running two radio shows, Songwriters Station at Rare FM and Daily Intermission at WCBN FM in Michigan, I’ve developed a passion for radio which was already fueled by my love for music. Given how much I’ve learnt from working closely with all committee members in the past and working at a physical radio station in the US, I’ve learnt how to manage a radio station, as well as how to engage our DJs and presenters.

Next year I plan to:

* Offer more training sessions and make having a show more accessible by offering rotational show slots in addition to the scheduled ones

* Building a Radio ID catalogue and working towards a weekly 24/7 online broadcast 

* Fortifying ties with Studtens Union and promoting our shows campus-wide

* Seek and promote UCL artists through playlists, interviews and acoustic performances

* Organising music review sessions and expanding the Rare FM written and video interview catalogue with UnCL 

* Having more nightclub and bi-weekly creative socials such as zine-making for UnCL

* Establishing new connections and strengthening the bonds with the pluggers, labels, and artist 

* Collaborating with other music societies such as Live Music, EMS and more.

I would be honoured and thrilled to represent Rare FM as president since it's become such a big part of my life and what I love doing!

As the President of Rare FM, I’d want to ensure that the station continues to be a vibrant community for everyone interested in radio.

I’d like to improve the visibility of Rare FM on campus and in the wider community through more socials and events. We are such a diverse group of people, all enthusiastic about radio and media, and this would allow for more community and collaboration throughout our society.

Rare FM is a big collaborator with other societies when it comes to events - I really want this to continue, providing upcoming DJs (as well as our veteran performers!) the chance to play at events around London.

I’d also love to boost engagement with Under City Lights, our music magazine, giving prospective writers more opportunities to publish their work, and if enough contributions are made even go about printing another physical issue.

I’ve loved my time in Rare, and want it to continue to be a welcoming and fun community for everyone across UCL.
