For many Hong Kong students (myself included), UCLPASS is the first port of call when it comes to finding career-related opportunities close to home. 

As UCLPASS’s career officer, I hope to organise workshops and career exposure panels more inclusive of different career paths while maintaining existing efforts to provide support for law, finance, and science-based students. In particular, I hope to better harness UCLPASS’S wealth of alumni connections by approaching speakers who transformed non-technical degrees (such as within the arts and humanities) into a career. 

I am well-equipped with the skills to succeed as a careers officer. I am outgoing and friendly with good networking skills. My experiences liaising with third-party organisations prepare me for the communication a careers officer must conduct with potential speakers. I’ve also had experience planning medium and large-scale activities, which facilitates me with the organisational and managerial skills vital in planning careers events. Moreover, being a careers subcommittee member taught me the inner workings of the careers department, which will help me hit the ground running when launching next year’s events. 

With these goals and skills in mind, I believe that I am a good candidate for the role of careers officer in the coming year. Should I be elected, I guarantee that I will organise meaningful events in the coming year that will be useful for many students in UCL’s Hong Kong community.
