Chiara L M D Wolter

Hi, I am Chiara, a second-year law undergraduate student and your current Welfare Officer.

From late meetings to plan this year’s fashion show and fun socials at Simmons to organising a knitting wellbeing social with UCL’s Knitting Soc: MODO has been a significant part of my first two years at uni and I have loved every minute of it.

Having been this year’s Welfare Officer, I am not only familiar with the work that this role entails, but I was also able to connect with a variety of creative and hardworking people from both MODO as well as other London- and UCL-based societies.

Moving forward, the skills that I have gained and the connections that I have made will help me build on this year’s work and make next year’s events even more inclusive and diverse.

My ideas include:

  • More collabs with other UCL societies: ex.: similar to this year’s knitting and matcha wellbeing event with Knit Soc
  • Focus on image distortion: a talk focussing on photoshop and self-perception, a no/less-makeup social
  • Combining styling and wellbeing events: ex.: Styling workshop with hot chocolate

I would be delighted to work with you next year!

Maahika Singh

It would be an honour to be the welfare officer for MODO, being part of the society, and participating in both the Spring 2022 and 2023 editions of the magazines, alongside the fashion show has been one of the highlights of my experience at university. I feel so grateful to be part of such an amazing, supportive and creative community. As welfare officer, I would ensure that every member feels included and represented and provide support to anyone who has any concerns on any issues. Although MODO already has a very diverse membership, I feel that we could make further efforts to be more inclusive and appreciative of alternative perspectives of fashion and beauty that don't conform to Eurocentric beauty standards. Therefore, by collaborating with other committee members such as the social sec, editor of the magazine, and head of marketing, I would ensure that this implemented and that there is even greater diversity in the events, the magazine and the social media accounts. Overall, I want MODO to be a community that celebrates difference and allows each member to express themselves without judgment.
