Carmen Chang

Hi I'm Carmen, a second-year student studying Infection and Immunity. MODO has been a significant part of my life at UCL and it is fair to say that MODO is the root of my self-confidence today. Through my past two years in MODO, I have been actively contributing to every prominent event:

  • Led my own photoshoot "Luxury in You" for MODO Magazine 2021 January Edition and "Fantasy of Future" for MODO Magazine 20th Anniversary Edition
  • Member of the production team in the committee
  • Head of Volunteering for the Fashion Show
  • Modelled for the Fashion Show

I have gained a strong understanding of how MODO runs as a society. Being at the front as a model and the back as a member of the production team for the Fashion Show, I am assertive that I can assist the President in bringing back the conspicuous fashion show once again. Below are the ideas that I hope to implement for MODO 2023/2024:

  • workshops on finding your styles
  • a fashion-dance showcase whereby the creations of the designers are portrayed through dance
  • a charity fashion show
  • A trip to Paris Fashion Week
  • Live panel talks by speakers from the fashion industry

Overall, my goal is to make MODO as inclusive as possible, a bridge where fashion enthusiasts meet to form those strong hydrogen bonds ;D and boost self-confidence across the community. With my experiences and expertise in leadership, teamwork and organisation, I am confident that the president and I can make MODO the SLAYESTTT society of UCL!!

Lakkaya Palmer

I have been with modo for almost four years, from a nervous participant to walking in my first show with Modo in 2019, becoming Head of Production in 2020, and being Model co-ordinator 2022/23. I feel like my experience with Modo has made me grow as a person, and it has given me the space to build a community. Being a part of modo has instilled core memories of my UCL years, some of the memories and experiences I will never forget.

If given this position, I could install some of the wisdom that I have learned throughout the years to all the new modo members and help them grow from being the nervous participant (like I was) to being something great. I am suitable for this position because I am passionate, hard-working and highly organised. I hope to plan some breathtaking events such as studio photoshoots, fashion shows, design workshops, working with brands and influencers, and much more.

Annabelle Ren Fang

Hi I'm Annabelle! and I would love to be MODO's vice-president

As treasurer this year, I have become extremely familiarized with all the inner workings of the society and know the amount of work that goes into this role. I would love to continue contributing to the society that has shaped my time at uni. MODO is one of the best communities I have ever joined and I want to ensure that it is a safe and inclusive group for everyone!

As vice president, I will ensure that the society continues to be the welcoming place that it was this year and overall, help develop the level of creativity and talent that exists in the society. As treasurer, I was in charge of everything finance and administration so rest assured that I know how to deal with all the tedious details that are behind the amazing work done at MODO. This meant submitting countless forms for the Fashion Show (that was a huge success :)), the Gala, and anything else that you have ever participated in for MODO. I can thus be of great help to the president and treasurer when working with the SU. I have also developed my coordination and communication skills which are crucial when running the society.

I also have skills related to fashion design and making which I believe to be of priority for next year's show! Running the sewing workshops and working closely with designers this year has ensured that I will be in a strong position to contribute to the society in all aspects next year as your vice president.

Thanks!

Gaspard C A Grindel

Joining MODO has been the highlight of my time at UCL.

It has introduced me to the most amazing people I have met in London, people who love fashion as much as I do, and who have the drive to collaborate to fulfil each other’s fashion dreams.

Being involved in MODO has broadened my horizons and has allowed me to get a glimpse of the fascinating fashion industry. Getting the opportunity to work on MODO magazine and having the honour to have the shoot I directed on the cover of the magazine has been incredibly rewarding and humbling.

I am running for Vice President because I want to help unite like-minded people and give UCL students a platform to express and develop their love for fashion, but mainly to be involved in this fantastic community.

As your Vice President, I aim to play an active part in making MODO’s organization operational. As a social individual, my main focus will be to ensure decisions and events are made and organised with everyone’s opinion and input and to ensure the society is going in a direction that all members support. I will be helping the President and all committee members in dynamically running this society.

VOTE for Gaspard :)

Zoe V Turpin

I'm standing for his position and I find the fashion industry energising with future aspirations to become an editorial journalist. I'm a History student U.C.L. with a huge enthusiasm for this society and the MODO magazine. This enthusiasm I have for the industry is what will motivate me to run the society, it's events and the magazine to the best of my ability. I run my own fashion website named TASTELESS (www.tastelessblog.com) with engagement from over 40,000 online and readers from over 25 countries. In addition I have an internship lined up this summer at Harper's Bazaar Arabia, this experience in fashion journalism will help aid the formation and running of the MODO magazine specifically and the society in general.
