Sofiya Shagirova

Hi! My name is Sofiya, I am from Almaty and am a first year Arts and Science student here at UCL.

My experience on the committee this year as the social media manager made me keen on helping our society further, and is the exact reason why I decided to apply for the role of the president. The ability to make the society even more warming and welcoming is what drives my motivation to be the president.

I had a variety of different leadership roles in the last 4 years at school; My experience on both ends of the spectrum: not only being a team leader, but a team member as well, have shown me the most important qualities of a team. I have been fortunate enough to work on projects not only within the school bubble, but also outside of it, such as TeachingForHeroes, OhMyEcon and smaller contributions to other volunteering programmes within Kazakhstan.

Aruzhan Mominbayeva

As a citizen of the Kazakhstan Republic, I feel responsible for the proper representation of my country and Kazakh culture at UCL. I understand how important it is for each of us to keep in touch with our roots, and how difficult it may be to adapt to a new environment, especially in another country. I want to become a leader of the Kazakh society in order to support Kazakh students and to popularize the culture of Kazakhstan. My country is similar to UCL - the same inter-ethnic and diverse, I want to make  this quality a key in the Kazakh society.

I also plan to carry a large number of joint events for club members. I strongly believe that this will allow students to properly meet each other and become friends in future. Besides that I am interested in the interaction of the Kazakh society with other organizations at UCL, whether it would be inviting speakers, organizing holidays or just spending free time together. I believe that the community is a great opportunity for personal growth, as well as for networking.
