Naoki Parker

Hi, I'm Naoki. I’m half-Japanese, half-British and raised in the UK. I’m running for President because Japan Society allowed me to make a wide variety of friends from Japanese people, learners, to those interested in Japan and I want others to enjoy their experience too. In the society I would like to:

  • Build a stronger community where there is more interaction between Japanese and Non-Japanese members
  • Improve communication between the committee and members so events are more clear and what members want is better understood
  • Bring more structure to the committee

To do this I will:

  • Ensure that all events end with time for socialising so members can make plans to hang out later
  • Have more regular polls for feedback
  • Show what events are being planned every month on Instagram
  • Set up a clear schedule and clear tasks for the committee

This year I took on the following roles in the society:

  • Sub-committee where I helped out planning, preparing and helping out during events
  • Level 3 language teacher and the level 2 senior teacher

Through my experience in these roles and friends who represent different demographics, I can understand the society from committee, teacher, student and regular member perspectives. I better understand how to plan for events/lessons and what sort of events/lessons are more popular. Thus, I understand what I need to do as President.

I believe I can have a positive impact on the society. Reach out @naokiparker on Instagram for any questions!

Saho Kumagai

Hi, I am Saho! (first-year student, Japanese)

I am running for President because I am eager to elevate the Japan society to the next level, by discounts, events and our Instagram posts. Japan society's events have provided me with a community where I could feel Japan and made me realise the beauty of my home country. Therefore by becoming President, I would like to make the community where people can discover more about Japan.

Why me
・As a sub-committee member, I helped various committee positions :

President: communicated with other societies and universities
Event director: organised Undokai and Karaoke
Marketing director: posted Instagram stories before and after events

Experiencing 3 roles gave me a clear understanding of how our society is run.

・Leadership skills
