The UCL Investment society is an organized, innovative and entrepreneurial reality, and becoming president would imply ensuring that every member has a voice and feels empowered to contribute to new ideas and activities. This year, I was a first-year representative within the society and being in touch with this organization made me eager to be even more involved.

My desire to become president of the society stems from the belief that student organizations foster innovation and change and the UCL Investment society brings together individuals with shared interests with the objective of deepening their knowledge about the financial markets and taking part in exciting opportunities to grow academically and professionally since a young age.

My vision with the Investment society includes using the organization as a true means of increasing knowledge and awareness about the financial world both within UCL and outside; organizing boot camps, panel discussions, social events for students to come together as a group. Furthermore, it would be essential to improve the structure and organization of the society to ensure that the members work cohesively and collaboratively to achieve the desired objectives.

I would love to have the opportunity to guide the Investment society and meet students with a common passion for the dynamic and challenging world of finance, creating an environment where they feel understood and where they can gain insights about their interests ☺️

Noah Chander

Being a first year representative for the last few months has taught me how to follow, how to lead and how UCLIS or really any large student society actually operates from the inside.

At every opportunity I got, I branched out to VPs, executives and other FYRs (Conference, Outreach, Marketing etc.), carrying out tasks to network and familiarise myself with different parts of the society. I did this to make the society as successful as possible with an eye to lead it in some way in the future.

I believe I have the exact skill set (and perhaps naivete) to run for this role and make the best of it that I possibly can. In terms of ideas, I have many myself about our flagship event, the conference, the UCL Investment Fund (being an analyst myself on the fund), and how the society is perceived. However, first and foremost, I don't believe there exists a perfect leader and I think the best a president, in this case, can do is to empower and assist those they work alongside.

This particular skill, working alongside my unhealthy work ethic, makes me the person for the job. I hope you consider me but genuinely encourage all candidates to be thoroughly considered so that we can find the best.

Denton Philtjens

My name is Denton, and I am running for President of the UCL Investment Society. Having been a part of UCLIS for the past 2 years, first as a mentee and then as outreach executive, I understand the importance UCLIS plays at UCL and hope to have a pivotal role in helping the society expand over the next year.

In my past year as outreach executive, I’ve led inter-departmental talks, organized collaborations with LSE and KCL and worked on attracting speakers to the flagship finance conference. I’ve thus worked closely with the rest of the committee, which has helped me understand the society’s inner workings and intricacies.

If I were to become president, my priorities would be:

  • More collaborations and socials with other departments, societies and universities
  • Bring back the alumni dinner, to connect keen members with industry experienced alumni
  • Run more workshops teaching investment skills and knowledge as well as finance related technical knowledge.
  • Host a wider range of socials, in addition to the usual pub and club nights.

I am an outgoing, hard-working, finance-passionate individual, and thus for my final year at UCL, I would be honored to give back to the society which has greatly shaped me as an individual and an aspiring professional.
