Ria K Sukhija

Hi everyone, I’m Ria and I’m a first year medical student running for the role of treasurer.

As a first year representative for Indian society, I’ve witnessed first-hand the hard work and meticulous planning required to execute events such as Jashn. The role provided me with an insight as to the scale of these events as well as the features that lead to their success. This has given me an understanding as to how the Societies’ budget should be allocated to ensure students receive the maximum return from their membership.

Having worked alongside the current committee, I recognise that a strong sense of organisation is a key feature of a successful treasurer. My part time job as an administrator in a GP surgery has provided me with time management skills in a fast-paced environment. The job exemplified my decisive nature which will be essential when handling the finances of the society. Running a baking business and a Fairtrade store has given me the transferable skills needed to budget appropriately, as well as confidently handle negotiations with companies.

If given the role of treasurer I will prioritise sparing no expense to maintain the high standards expected from our events and balance this with striving for the lowest costs possible for members. My focus will be on social, career and cultural events which cater for British-Indians and international students, as well as those from other backgrounds wishing to learn more about and immerse themselves in Indian culture!
