Sreejana Basu

The diversity and plethora of tunes that surrounded Indian classical music always fascinated me as a child. Self-taught singer with a fervor for music, I am thrilled to be applying for the position of music director at UCL Indian Society. The power of music to heal and inspire, as well as to unite people from all walks of life, is what makes it so special for me. It is through this passion and commitment that I can contribute my energy, creativity, and leadership skills to help Indian Society foster a love and appreciation for music.

If elected, I plan on creating a platform that showcases the eclectic forms of Indian music. Through workshops, weekly Bollywood jam sessions, and performances like sangeet, students can be exposed to a variety of Indian music genres, including classical, folk, and contemporary. Furthermore, I strive to collaborate with other cultural societies to construct innovative events that incorporate music with other art forms. I am certain that my wide experience organizing music events and socials, puts me at an advantage to collaborate with others and create meaningful musical experiences.

Jia Nag

Hi everyone, I’m Jia a first year medical student! I would love to be your next Indian soc music director and involve myself with the organisation of Sangeet and other fun music related social activities. I am an avid singer-songwriter and have performing from a young age. I produce my own original music and play the guitar and piano. My love for music became more than a hobby when I won the the Jack Petchey national song writing competition in 2020 and got an opportunity to perform my original song at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End. I have experience in organising large scale events in the past including my secondary school Gym and Dance display and annual library book nights. Through this, I have developed good organisation, leadership, and communication skills which I think would make me well suited to this role. So far, as part of UCL’s Indian society, I have been a member of the Just Bollywood dance team and have performed in Sangeet and Jashn so I am aware of the work that goes on behind the scenes to make Indian Society events so special. As a music director of UCL Indian society I aim to work together with the team to put together a fantastic Sangeet 2024 along with other platforms where we can showcase musical talent at UCL.
