Hey guys, my name is Izzy and I would like to be your Treasurer for the upcoming academic year.

I am applying for the role of Treasurer because I enjoy budgeting and am eager to expand my skills, becoming more involved in the Geography Society. I am always open to challenges and ready to learn.

I am a BA undergraduate Geography student. I have worked jobs in team environments for the past two years, for instance as a general assistant, and I also have an A-Level in maths. Therefore, I am adept with numbers; familiar with handling money and able to communicate in an efficient and effective manner. As such, I feel up to the task and ready to be part of the team.

I am running for the treasurer role because I love the work that the Geography Society does and wanted to find a position where I could make a difference and contribute to this. I'm passionate about the subject and think that this is important to the role as ultimately I want to contribute to creating events for people with similar interests to enjoy.

In terms of why I would be a good fit for the role, I am well organised, responsible and have previously run multiple book clubs and events like tree plantings as a Geography ambassador in secondary and high school. This gave me experience managing and communicating on behalf of a student group that would transfer well into a role as treasurer. It also demonstrates my high work ethic, which would be valuable in the role as I’m always willing to put in extra work to make sure things run smoothly.

As a member of the committee, I would like to run more regular events. In particular, I think more social events would be good, as things like the joint quiz with LSE, Geoguesser quiz and the pub socials are all fun, with the former two also being unique events that only this society is in the unique position to run.

On top of this, I think more volunteering opportunities like the tree planting event could be somewhere for the society to expand, as these are both good at expanding a CV at university while doing something constructive and fun since you’re working with likeminded people.

Thanks for reading my application!

Vishal Mistri

Hi everyone, I am Vishal and I believe I have the necessary skills to be your treasurer for the 2023/24 academic year.

I study BA Geography with Social Data Science, which has helped me to analyse data and have a critical eye for detail, which are key skills in budgeting and organising finances. I am also a very organised individual, with some prior experience managing finances, which will help me to budget effectively for future Geography Society events to make sure they meet everyone’s expectations.

Additionally, I will work with other Geography Society leaders to aim to make events more financially accessible for society members.

Further to this, I am a social individual and this will help me to work with other leaders of the society to help budget and plan future events. I will keep in contact with society members, and work closely with the president to maintain everybody’s best interests for the society.

Thank you for considering my nomination, and I hope I have convinced you to vote for me as treasurer,

Vishal Mistri
