Ichika Aradono

Hello, my name is Ichika, and I am a soon-to-be third year student studying BSc Cancer Biomedicine.

I have been working for the Genetics Society since Year 1 as an Associate Officer and Year 2 as the Treasurer. I have been actively involved in this society, ranging from organizing the Freshers’ fair to monitoring the webpage and other social media accounts. Moreover, I was involved in organizing socials, seminars and talks, and I also enjoyed participating in Journal club meetings as a speaker. Building on my experience, this year I hope to become the President and contribute to the further development of this society!

My goal is to facilitate effective communication between the committee, members, and other societies to plan interactive events at least twice a month, both in academic and non-academic ways. This would be similar to the events we had this year, such as meal socials, museum trip, pub quiz, movie nights and so on.

In addition, I really enjoyed participating in Journal clubs, and I hope to continue promoting this open-floor undergraduate journal club opportunity for students to build academic experiences. The career sessions, seminars and talks were also very intriguing, and I look forward to collaborating with other life science related societies or companies (e.g. Pharmaceutical, Biotech etc.) to organize learning opportunities where we will be able to plan career goals as well.

Thank you very much for your consideration!

Tanisha Lohia

I am a student on the Human Genetics MSci, and i am extremely passionate about genetics. As president, it would be my pleasure to oversee a society that means so much to me, so that I can ensure the delivery of socials, and keep the tradition of journal club going. To me, GenSoc is an opportunity to connect with those who are fascinated by genetics, and learn more about the field, as well as opportunities within it, and how to explore those available at UCL. We attend one of the best unis in the world- and we need to learn how to make the most of it. That's what I would use my position as President to do.

I promise:

- To keep GenSoc as social as possible

- To give everyone plenty of information about careers in genetics

- To encourage people who haven't previously considered genetics to do so

- To increase outreach

- To have an incredibly interactive society.
