Hi! I’m Lavlyn, a second-year BSc cancer biomedicine student. I am committed to joining the genetic society as an associate committee member in the upcoming academic year to explore the interdisciplinary approach of genetics in human diseases such as cancer. I’ve always been intrigued by how genetic manipulations using genome sequencing and other genomic techniques (like DNA microarrays) could revolutionise modern medicine. Being part of the society would deepen my understanding of the possible applications of genetics to address challenges in human health. I’ve also learned the importance of acknowledging different perspectives by being one of the project leaders (UCL CancerCare) in a Student-Led Volunteering Programme and by actively participating in group information-gathering sessions while incorporating our expertise into different parts of the plan, we, as team, were empowered to establish solutions more effectively.
Thank you for reading and I hope you will consider me as next year’s associate committee member to further support society members by creating meaningful experiences :)
As a 2nd year Cancer Biomedicine student, I am highly interested in genetics and bioinformatics and I am hoping to bring value to the society by working collaboratively with other committee members in various projects, and to create opportunities for people to develop their passion for genetics and related fields. I believe I am a good candidate for the role as I am highly organised, am able to work well in groups, create and start projects, and will bring a positive and passionate attitude. I also enjoy scientific article writing and am excited to contribute to writing for the blog as an associate committee member!
