We all faced some degree of nervousness, excitement or just being overwhelmed while we are adjusting to the new environment at university. Having taken part in some of the events organized by the Filipino society made me realize the importance of diversity and inclusivity regardless of nationality and race. Because of this, I’m genuinely interested in becoming the welfare officer for this upcoming academic year. I hope to create a more cohesive community among students from various backgrounds - both Filipinos and non-Filipinos. In addition, I would maintain constant communication with other committee members to ensure that everyone in the society is able to express their interests and opinions. Through volunteering (such as taking on the role as an interim fundraising officer for “In Aid of Unicef” as well as working with external organizations like Macmillan Cancer Support), I’ve improved my ability to communicate and cooperate with others more effectively when working in a diverse environment. It is a valuable experience that I have always found extremely rewarding. In this way, I will be able to ensure the right information is shared with the right people at the right time.

I hope to make Filipino society a place where everyone feels safe and welcome. Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll consider voting for me :)

Hii everyone! I am running for Welfare and Community Outreach Officer because I am committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community for all members and ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued. I aim to be a point of contact whenever you need help with any academic, mental health, or personal concerns.

Additionally, I would like to encourage community outreach and volunteerism. As someone who has volunteered in the past, I know how rewarding it can be to give back to the community, and make a positive impact on the world.

I plan to work closely with other committee members to organise events that will make everyone feel welcome. I understand that uni life can be challenging and hopefully the social events foster interaction and build meaningful connections among all members.

I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the filipino society and to support all of you throughout your time at UCL. :)

Franz Torres

hey guys, i'm franz and i'll be running for the welfare officer position (plus another) in ucl filipino society. if elected as the society's welfare officer, i aim to ensure the needs of all members are met across the next academic year!

having only been a part of the filisoc family since the start of this year, i have never felt more at home here at ucl. i am probably the only filipino i know in my course (understandable because who in their right mind would choose to study philosophy), and so it has been comforting to finally see people like myself at the same institution as myself. this is something i want current and incoming filipino students to feel so that their time at ucl is a memorable one.

i have made several memories with filisoc (my favourite events have to be monsta night and the valentine's collab) and i aspire to maintain the positive environment that the current committee has already propagated through such events, as well as develop new and current safeguarding measures, and most importantly, having a committee that is friendly and approachable.

as a queer filipino, i also understand that some students may have difficulty in completely expressing themselves and being comfortable with their identities. i hope to provide any discrete/anonymous assistance for such cases and make things inclusive for people of those communities, too.

again, it would be my pleasure to be a part of the team and continue the efforts of our current committee - take care :)
