Fencing Club: Treasurer

Hello everyone, I hope you all know me. I have had the pleasure to serve as the Treasurer for the UCL Fencing society for the last 8 months, and in that time I have made it my goal to get to know the members of the club to better understand how to improve the club.

If you don’t know me, my name is Lorcan O’Kane and I joined the fencing club at the beginning of the last academic year and before then I had never held a fencing blade. I came up through the beginner course and joined the intermediate sessions later, this gave me a rounded view of the club and helped me understand the experiences of our members, and a better understanding of where money is needed most.

Since my election to the committee I have made several changes to the Treasury, including introducing a more robust system of recording spending to improve transparency and accountability, and introducing an annual budget.

I was also able to secure a sponsorship of £6,000, greatly improving our equipment and social budgets for the year, I aim to renegotiate the same deal if I am re-elected.

Because of my careful management we will be entering next year in a much better financial situation than this year, meaning more funding can be dedicated to equipment and socials.

I would love nothing more than being able to spend another year improving the club that has given me so many wonderful experiences, but either way, I’ll see you all in the Mendella hall and Phineas next year.
