Phoebe Luxford

Treasurer is a very important position for the Debating Society and requires experience and knowledge of debating and finance. Having been a member, Non-Portfolio Officer, and now Secretary of the society, I greatly understand how the society works and what our members need. I also have experience budgeting, allocating funds and fundraising.

I am reliable and would handle payments efficiently and allocate funds fairly and effectively. Integrity is an important part of this role, and I pride myself on being honest, diligent and responsible.

A key aim of mine is to make financial matters more transparent for our members. I would ensure that the finance log is updated regularly so our committee can understand the society's financial position.

I also propose to work with the President at the beginning of the year to create an annual budget. This would ensure that funds are distributed fairly, and that planning for social events and competitions could begin earlier. Having a budget provides efficiency with our money, and funds are available across the academic year.

Thank you, and vote for Phoebe for treasurer!

Ange Qin

Hey y’all, I’m Ange. You may know me as the current Officer of Mace, or as the debater always wearing excessive amounts of eyeliner.

Throughout the year, I’ve learned a lot about being Treasurer through ~osmosis~, but also observing and participating in a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. From helping with tournaments to running the equity tab, I’ve worked with the debating society since the start of the term, and I’m reading to take on a more serious role by becoming Treasurer.

Though I’m no econ major, I’m quite deft at handling the financials. I’ve done so previously for my high school debate team, model UNs, and case competitions. I’ve done a bit of everything the Treasurer role requires, from outreach to budgeting to overspending on socials. I’ve handled the financials of conferences that saw an attendance of over 1000, which has thickened my skin and lengthened my patience significantly.

The role of Treasurer seems like an easy job, but it is nowhere near that. I fully understand the responsibilities I would take on should I be elected, and will do my absolute best to keep things running as smoothly as possible. As someone who is chronically online and compulsively checks emails, you can bet I’ll be timely and efficient in responding to emails and filing invoices.

From allocations funds to registration fees to funding the society’s yakka addiction, I’m so excited for what the new year brings and I can’t wait to be your Treasurer.

Conor Dolan

The management of our finances is of the utmost importance. Fiscal capacity is THE prerequisite for the running of socials, events, and attendance at tournaments – including WUDC and EUDC. As your Treasurer, I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure the financial stability and indeed prosperity of our society.

For the past 2 years I have served on the committee as an IV Convenor, organising UCL’s competitive debating competitions. I have helped to successfully run tournaments such as UCL schools, UCL Pro-am, UCL IV, and other exciting competitions – making £1000s for the society. Considering that the majority of our profit stems from the competitions which we host, a strong understand of these, and particularly the various expected costs and profits of each competition is essential. Convening is a role which demands a high volume of work, particularly admin related tasks, skills such as these are certainly transferable to the role of Treasurer. More generally, being a long serving member of our committee, I have a keen understanding of the innerworkings of our society, including our major sources of expenditure and income, as well as the concerns and priorities of our members. This experience will stand me in good stead to manage our finances.

Aims:

  • Transparency: I will publish regular reports on the state of the society’s finances.
  • Sponsorships: Over the summer I will produce a sponsorship brochure for our society and will approach possible sponsors.
  • Budget: I will give clarity to fellow committee members, providing
