Harshavardhan Mishra

Hi everyone,

I’m Harshavardhan and I'm running to be president of the Data Science Society for 2023-2024.

Having served as FYR for the research division this year, I have developed a nuanced understanding of its functioning. I now feel confident and ready to take on a new challenge by learning to manage all other domains of the society as well, including sponsorship, events, science and marketing.

In addition to my hands-on experience with the research department, some of my additional skills include:

  • Sound networking skills: With a large LinkedIn network consisting of individuals from all over the globe, I would be able to publicise the DSS whilst also bringing in sponsors and event speakers.
  • Leadership experience and teamwork skills: Having served as president of my school’s Economic Honours Society, I know how to lead and collaborate with others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • The ability to hear all voices: As course representative for BSc Computer Science for 2022-2023, I have resolved several issues by serving as an intermediary. This skill would allow me to take on everyone’s ideas and perspectives to help the DSS reach new heights.

My main goal, if elected, would be to help optimise the output of the DSS to fit different audiences, ensuring there is something for everyone:

  • Those with pre-existing, sound knowledge of data science
  • Those at an intermediate stage of their journey
  • Those looking to enter data science/ casual listeners

Vote Harshavardhan!

Ethan Kho

Hey guys!

I'm Ethan and I'm running for president of the Data Science society because I want to build a community that makes learning Data Science as easy as possible.

I've taught myself the necessary Data Science skills (I have programmed a fake news detection algorithm) and am looking to take them to the next level by doing the Le Wagon Data Science bootcamp in London this summer. If you elect me as your president for next year, I'll be able to take these lessons to help you learn Data Science in the simplest way possible.

As president, I'll put together talks from employees at top quantitative hedge funds and hot tech startups so that we can all learn from their industry insights and practices.

I want the Data Science Society to be a place for everyone to learn and enjoy Data Science the way I do.

Vote for me, and I'll do just that! ???

Edgar Tsang

I'm Edgar, one of the current committee members of the Data Science Society. This year, I am running for the role of President as I believe that I have the skills and motivations to lead and guide the society, creating a nurturing environment for individuals hopeful to learn more about Data Science.

Skills I have:

  • Organisational. In my past, I have previously organised Hackathons, Speakers, Panels, and more, with these events running smoothly and successfully.
  • Adaptability. Studying Computer Science, I am constantly introduced to new concepts and languages which have helped me to develop a determination to solve any and all problems effectively.
  • Communication. Confidence is key to opening new pathways, and by putting myself forward, I will effectively build new connections and push forward the Data Science Society.

Goals for next year:

  • Organising more Hackathons with companies and banks. I hope to organise a number of large scale hackathons, centering around Data Science.
  • Creating more links with other societies and hosting joint events. This will allow us to introduce Data Science in a greater number of contexts, such as in the medical field, and increase our outreach massively.
  • Ensuring that sponsorships are secured and the funds are used for purposes to aid and benefit our members. This will include subsidised events and free food socials.

Ultimately, I hope to be the next President of the Data Science Society and lead us to another successful year.
