Hi I'm Penny and I will be running for next year's Treasurer! I have been a part of dance society for two years now, making sure that the membership was one of the first things I purchased in freshers week. I've attended the weekly jazz and contemporary classes (you may have seen me around) pretty religiously. I was also involved in the class showcase last year, and the 24hr show and triple bill this year. Being a part of all the things dance society has to offer has been a truly enriching experience; making friends, improving on and learning new skills and performing to sold out audiences!
This continued involvement has sparked my passion for wanting to get involved in organising the dance community at UCL. I know the commitment it takes to help run a successful show and making sure everything runs smoothly throughout the year so I feel like I would be the perfect fit for this. I have worked in the Students Union Activities Team for a year and a half (we work with all clubs and societies at UCL), giving me comprehensive knowledge on every financial process and form it takes to run a society. I know the timelines and how to complete complex purchase requests and contracts, before even joining the committee. This knowledge, on top of my good interpersonal skills, successful time management, organisational ability (I'm that one friend in the group who actually organises the night out) and dedication for dance, is why I think you should vote for me for Treasurer!!
DanceSoc makes me feel alive after an exhausting day of classes and the community provides me with some much-needed sanity! All I want to do is give back to this society by being part of the BTS and making future experiences absolutely epic, therefore I am submitting my nomination for treasurer.
Although I am new here, I understand what the role requires and I'll give it my all. As treasurer, you will see me being
ORGANISED! I love being extremely systematic (my desktop screen is a testament to that!) and will be on track with the budget, invoices and anything that comes my way!
DEDICATED! I am absolutely dedicated to my promise of giving back and making it as fantastic as the experience I had <3
A LEARNER! I am open to criticism and will take any opportunity to grow and make the society bigger and better!
A LEADER AND A TEAM PLAYER! I am coordinated, a good communicator and can delegate effectively. I have experience leading 800 students and am confident that I can produce the Freshers show without a glitch:)
RESPONSIBLE! I play by the rules and know that handling finances require a lot of delicacy and responsibility. I'm serious about handling these issues with the utmost care and will efficiently execute my duties.
Now that I'm in my final year, I really want to give back by becoming DanceSoc treasurer and I will use my leadership experience and finance background to ensure you have the best experience and feel nothing short of being welcome!
Hey I'm Fiona :) I'm a 1st year Arts and Sciences student and I'm standing for Freestyle Soc's Treasurer. I've enjoyed getting to be a part of Freestyle Soc this year especially going to the workshops in Term 1 and just love the safe space that FreestyleSoc gives to freely explore dance and movement. It'd be an honour to get to play a role in this and be a part of the society's direction this coming year!
Why Freestyle Soc? I honestly love the society for its culture of appreciating each style for its original roots. Nowadays it's easy to access dance choreography as a combination of styles, but it's also important to respect genres by learning how they came to be and their foundational moves. And FreestyleSoc gives a safe and friendly environment to do just that.
In terms of dance background, back at home I was a member of a litefeet crew pioneering the style in Singapore. Seeing how they've organised and led freestyle events has been great inspiration I'd hope to apply here at UCL FreestyleSoc. Additionally, I consider myself as detail-oriented, and good with spreadsheets and organisation – literally catch me editing presentation formats and folders when I'm bored. Not the most exciting of interests, but definitely a great quality in a Treasurer ;)
Overall, I just love dance and am just glad for the chance to be more involved with the dance scene.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read, and see you around! :)
