Chinese Students and Scholars Association Society: President

For the past three years, I dedicated a tremendous amount of time into UCLCSSA, achieving multiple goals set by past leaders and myself. With Covid finally over around the world, there are more areas to test the limit both in UK and China. For the upcoming year, I already have plans to benefit students, from a spring ball to more affordable ways traveling to UK. Or, it could be information sessions for new students before they set off for their new adventures in UCL. 

UCLCSSA also represents a bridge between China and western cultures. Every year we have a show to present during Chinese New Year, with  cultural instruments played and Chinese songs singed and presented. It is a great opportunity to demonstrate our culture to the world. 

During this holiday, people decorate their homes with red lanterns and posters, wear red clothing, and exchange red envelopes filled with money. The Chinese character for "good fortune" (福) is often displayed upside down on red paper during the Lunar New Year, as the pronunciation of the word for "upside down" (倒) is similar to the word for "arrive" (到), symbolizing the arrival of good fortune.

There are so much more to talk about given the 5000 years of history. If I have the opportunity to win the election, I will share more. My main goals are to prepare new Chinese for University life in London, negotiate benefits for the students in UK, and share the Chinese culture to the world.

Last year, I devoted myself to UCLCSSA from various aspects. I reached out to 40+ institutes to collaborate, had cssa ins followers increased by 1000+ in 3 months, with 2000+ students participated in the events I initiated, from the academic event x FUDAN university, Valentines Blind Box Event, Varities shows on xhs, to choir social events.

Through this I gained a deeper insight in UCLCSSA's operation. I cooperated with all 13 departments, got in touch with 130+ CSSA members (around 170 in all). Striking a balance between CSSA member’s satisfaction and the quality of works, I spent 40+h listening to feedbacks from our participants, volunteers, and members. I constantly reflect on current projects, then make sustainable innovations.

Next year, I plan to:

• Negotiate with SU to use Blooms theatre for the Mist Studio, Spring Festival Gala, and the Art Troupe.
• Establish an academic dpt and connect with more scholars and institutes.
• Be open-minded and listen to more feedbacks from our participants, then improve x.
• Improve work structure: Tailor and execute strategies.
• Promote Chinese culture, keep our connection with the Student Union and more societies.

I regard myself as a person with creativity, leadership, commitment, and a sense of team and equality, and would like to nominate myself as the president this year. If you have witnessed the changes I made and believe in my statement, please vote for me.
