I am writing to apply for the position of Treasurer in the UCL Business Society. As a business enthusiast and a dedicated member of the society, I believe I possess the necessary skills and experience to excel in this role.

As an undergraduate student majoring in Economics and Business, I have completed various courses in accounting, asset pricing, private equity, and investment management. I have also participated in business-related extracurricular activities, including the UCL Hatchery and the Asset Management Society. Through these experiences, I have gained a solid understanding of business management and investment strategies.

I am constantly eager to learn new things and gain more experience, and, as a final-year student, this would be my first time applying to a society position. Nonetheless, given my experience so far with managing a business within the Hatchery I strongly believe I have the necessary experience of being a treasurer.

If selected for the position of Treasurer, I am committed to using my skills and experience to help the Business Society achieve its financial goals. I will ensure that the society's funds are managed responsibly and transparently and that all financial reports are accurate and up-to-date. I will also work closely with the executive board to develop investment strategies that align with the society's mission and objectives.

Ellen Tsai

Hi! I’m Ellen, a current First-Year Executive running to be your Treasurer.

The Business Society’s Treasurer is in charge of more than just our finances — the additional responsibility of managing our human resources and internal scheduling means the unique opportunity to value-add to our society by improving organisational workflow and efficiency.

From helping out at DECA to moderating the panel at the Impact Investment Championship, my past involvement in Business Society’s events has been extensive. These first-hand experiences further cemented my belief that not only are we a platform for like-minded individuals to come together and make meaningful connections, but we also create real, lasting impacts on UCL students’ career development and personal growth.

What I hope to achieve:

  1. Connect: Improve internal communication channels and empower members to be more proactive by enhancing the accessibility of “sticky” information.
  2. Engage: Promote open dialogue through multiple feedback systems, encouraging transparency and member-contribution. People can weigh in on what matters, guiding efficient resource allocation.
  3. Strengthen: Focus on bringing forward our budgeting and planning, enabling administrative aspects to be solidified way earlier to boost event outreach and participation.
  4. Grow: Broaden range of events and diversify according to evolving interests and needs of existing and potential members.

Thank you for lending me your support!

Haoyu Wang

Hi!

I am Haoyu, a first year BSc Economics Student. Being the treasurer of the UCL Gov&Pol society, studying for a CIMA, being proficient in Quickbooks accounting and maintained leadership positions in other UCL societies, such as being the president of the UCL Hedge Fund Society, I believe I have the relevant experience and ability to thrive in this position.

As treasurer, I will push for the following agenda:

  • To Consolidate Funds and promote responsible spending through a centralised accounting approach. I will also seek additional funding venues such as sponsorships and organising exclusive events to achieve a balanced budget
  • To Unite Departments and smoothen the budget approval system within the society to make it easier to get things done. This will broaden the society's membership base, supporting positive cash flow and long term growth
  • To Smoothen Communication and reduce frictions within the society. This will help us identify the most efficient/appropriate way of allocating our funds, reducing waste and maximise our ability to pursue other objectives
  • To Increase Accessibility by subsidising those in need. Though this is conditional on a strong budget position, I am optimistic in making this a reality with the support of my other policies.

I promise to bring positive impact to the society through a responsible and proactive approach to maximise efficiency, expanding and establishing the society as the de facto political discourse platform at UCL.
