Boat Club: Senior Men's Captain

Hi everyone! My name is Joe. I’m currently a member of the Senior Men’s squad and have decided to run for Senior Men’s Captain. I hope to use my experience, network and passion for the sport to develop the squad to qualify for Henley and raise its standing among intermediate rowing teams.

I have been rowing for seven years and had the privilege of winning Four's Head of the River, racing at Henley, and medalling at several national competitions. I have also rowed with GB athletes for a major feature film. From these experiences, I have learned how to form a competitive squad and built a network of highly experienced rowers and coaches.

I strongly believe that happy rowers make fast boats, and fast boats make happy rowers. With this in mind, I hope to introduce small groups to complete land training together, working as a squad off the water. I would also like to work with Gavin to start the year with an intense technical focus, making the most of the responsiveness of small boats and building a stable platform to work off. Finally, I would set clear squad goals every half term and provide technical focuses in advance of water sessions, including short videos where relevant. Through this, I am keen to form a foundation from which the whole squad can make the most of water sessions, being confident putting work down and enjoying outings more consistently.
