Maria Caluianu

I have been the Events Officer for the Bioethics and Medical Law Society for the past two years. If I am elected as Vice President, I will use my past experience to support the vision our new president has for the society and ensure the society keeps growing. I still have a couple event ideas (e.g. ethical problems in tissue engineering and the bioethics/criminal laws surrounding infectious diseases), but it is time for a new generation to take over our speaker events, bringing their own ideas.

As the Vice President, I would focus on making sure our society is represented more in various bioscience events (e.g. making sure we are part of things inter-society socials/balls) and have more collaborations with other societies. I would also work to maintain traditions such as the discussion groups that the society has developed over the last few years while making space for new traditions. I would like to pass on what I have learned from the past two years to make next year the best year yet for the society!

Lucza Johnson

Hi, I’m Lucza and I’d love to be one of the Vice Presidents for the Bioethics and Medical Law Society. I’m in my second year of studying Applied Medical Sciences and am passionate about biomedical ethics and learning about how ethical discussions are used to inform decisions in practice.

I believe I can help improve the society by learning more about what the members would want and organising talks, discussion groups, and networking events etc. accordingly. I’m excited to support different members of the committee and be involved in the many aspects of running a society, as well as helping the president make decisions about the society’s direction. I’d also propose reaching out to lecturers at UCL who could offer the members some insight on companies involved in making ethical decisions and regulations and suggest resources and modules which might be of interest. Ultimately, I’d love to help grow the society by offering support to others on the committee and making events as enjoyable and useful for the members as possible. Thanks!
