Abeni Randep Sethi

I am a neuroscience student and am extremely passionate about biology, specifically bioethics. I am extremely hardworking and have developed leadership and collaborative skills from previous roles. Being an avid debater, I enjoy having discussions with others on a number of topics. The UCL Bioethics and Medical Law Society is one which combines both of my interests, and I would like to engage myself in the events and discussions hosted by the society as a committee member.

As an events officer, I plan to expand on the kinds of events conducted by us. This would include journal clubs on research papers rooted in biology and law and more seminars conducted by researchers. In terms of more social events, I would propose having debates which would allow students to explore concepts from multiple perspectives. Additionally, we could introduce a ‘speed dating’ discussion event wherein members would switch between topics and discussion partners, allowing them to converse about a wide variety of topics in a short time. Policy and Case study discussions could also be done. This will allow students to interact with the society in a number of ways.

I want to bring these ideas to life and increase the accessibility with which UCL students can interact with the multidisciplinary field of bioethics and I would love to do this as your Events Officer.
